LESSON SEVEN

When You see the word ‘YOU’ capitalized in the Guidance, know that He is not just speaking to YOU, He is honoring YOU.

L e s s o n  7

I see only the past.

You might say it colours everything I see!  For I see all things through its filter. Thus I’m never present NOW and HERE, but rather then and there.

“Be here now!” is anathema to the conniving ego.  You think the ego is You, yet is it enemy to God and the Real You.  It works to keep You firmly “then” and “there”.

Hence the importance of Your willingness to heed this Lesson.

¹ This idea is particularly difficult to believe at first. Yet it is the rationale for all of the preceding ones.  You see through lenses that distort like funhouse mirrors! (Yes Sun~Rose! I sure have said this before, and will continue to till All do get it! It’s that important!)

² It is the reason why nothing that you see means anything. You aren’t present mentally in the moment, the Holy Instant.  It is Your presence that makes it so very holy. 

Because Heaven is only gained by Your Be-ing Here and Now!  God Loves each and every One of Us. You, too, are his “belovèd Son”; not just I.

³ It is the reason why you have given everything you see all the meaning that it has for you.  The ego runs You.

⁴ It is the reason why you do not understand anything you see.  And it is crucial for the ego that it keep You out of now.  So it keeps You in the past, anticipating but a better future, and still avoiding Now.

And it has worked like a charm for eons, with no benefit to You, Son of God, no blessing at all.

⁵ It is the reason why your thoughts do not mean anything and why they are like the things you see.  The Son of God, buried by the ego, is like the painting by Gauguin: Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?₁

⁶ It is the reason why you are never upset for the reason you think. For although You may think Yourselves more evolved, more civilized, better educated than Your Brothers and Your Sisters in the picture, are You not still in the dream?

⁷ It is the reason why you are upset because you see something that is not there.

Dreaming is but one hallucination upon another hallucination; ad infinitum.

⁸ Old ideas about time are very difficult to change because everything you believe is rooted in time and depends on your not learning these new ideas about it. Yet that is precisely why you need new ideas about time. This first time idea is not really so strange as it may sound at first. Look at a cup, for example.

⁹ Do you see a cup, or are you merely reviewing your past experiences of picking up a cup, being thirsty, drinking from a cup, feeling the rim of a cup against your lips, having breakfast, and so on? Are not your aesthetic reactions to the cup, too, based on past experiences? How else would you know whether or not this kind of cup will break if you drop it? What do you know about this cup except what you learned in the past? You would have no idea what this cup is except for your past learning. Do you, then, really see it? Or just remember? And remember when?  Perhaps from the first dream? A later one?

¹⁰ Look about you. This is equally true of whatever you look at. Acknowledge this by applying the idea for today indiscriminately to whatever catches your eye. For example:

¹¹ I see only the past in this pencil.
I see only the past in this shoe.
I see only the past in this hand.
I see only the past in that body.
I see only the past in that face.

I see only the past in that person.  How They affect Me. Yet if I saw them in their amazing glory, I would remember Love again; and Reality.

¹² Do not linger over any one thing in particular, but remember to omit nothing specifically. Glance briefly at each subject, and then move on to the next. 

Important lesson.
