LESSON ONE

TRANSCRIBER’S NOTE: The Course text is in bold face. The Guidance is in normal type In His Guidance, He has asked Me to capitalize the pronouns You and We as an acknowledgement of the Divinity of All of Us, an acknowledgement of Equality, an expression of His Love and respect for You. When You see the word ‘YOU’ capitalized in the Guidance, know that He is not just speaking to YOU, He is honoring YOU.

Workbook PART I

L e s s o n  1

Nothing I see in this room
[on this street, from this window,
in this place] means anything.

I am not looking through the eyes of God, but of the ego, the great distorter of Reality.

¹ Now look slowly around you, – being present with the exercise, not allowing Your mind to wander this time – and practice applying this idea very specifically to whatever you see:

² This table does not mean anything.
This chair does not mean anything.
This hand does not mean anything.
This foot does not mean anything.
This pen does not mean anything.

Add no thoughts to the statements; let them stand, hanging in the air.  They’re true, despite their senselessness to You.

Let Me give You something to contemplate: As a Universe of Consciousness, where all things are forever joined as facets of this Consciousness, and all communication the result of feeling thought, what need have You to sit at a table and write a letter?  Spirit rests on sunbeams made of Thoughts of Love.

Each facet, or appearance, is unique in ways beyond present understanding.  Yet will You certainly understand them!

³ Then look farther away from your immediate area, and apply the idea to a wider range:

⁴ That door does not mean anything.
That body does not mean anything.
That lamp does not mean anything.
That sign does not mean anything.
That shadow does not mean anything.

⁵ Notice that these statements are not arranged in any order, and make no allowance for differences in the kinds of things to which they are applied. They are true of the entire dream, in spite of what You think they mean. Just accept My words, farfetched as they may seem. They’re truth. That is the purpose of the exercise. The statement is merely applied to anything you see.  It’s quite factual. As you practice applying the idea for the day, use it totally indiscriminately. In other words, You question how You see. Do not attempt to apply it to everything you see, for these exercises should not become ritualistic.  Do it randomly. Only be sure that nothing you see is specifically excluded. One thing is like another as far as the application of the idea is concerned.  Be impartial, with a little bit of curiosity.  What You could You lose but Your mortality?
