Guidance from Elder Brother

L e s s o n 108
To give and to receive are one in truth.
Never can the Giver be separated from the Gift, for S/He is part of it. Just so, God’s Gifts are Gifts of God Himself. And Your own Gifts are Gifts of You, Yourself. And Self but grows when It is extended.
1 Vision depends upon today’s idea.
What do I mean when I speak of Vision but the ability to clearly see God’s Reality.
The light is in it, for it reconciles all seeming opposites.
Truly it is Light Itself, for that is how it sees all things.
And what is light except the resolution, born of peace, of all your conflicts and mistaken thoughts into one concept which is wholly true? Even that one will disappear because the Thought behind it will appear instead, to take its place.
Knowing that is the Source of all peace and happiness; awake and never dreaming.
And now we are at peace forever, for the dream is over now.
2 True light which makes true vision possible is not the light the body’s eyes behold. It is a state of mind which has become so unified that darkness cannot be perceived at all.
In other words, it no longer thinks of Good and evil, for All there is is Good.
And thus what is the same
– all Things Good and Real –
is seen as one, while what is not the same remains unnoticed, for it is not there.
As I have mentioned other years, it’s like the rhyme of the man upon the stair who wasn’t there, which quite thoroughly describes the entire dream. It isn’t there, … and it can go away.1
For imperfection really isn’t there!
3 This is the light which shows no opposites, and vision, being healed, has power to heal.
Hard as this may be to comprehend – for it is quite contrary to the senses – all there is is Light. What appears as ‘dark’ is but Light’s suppositious opposite. As the Reality of Spirit, there is no solid earth to block the radiance of the sun. So can the Bible say: “There is no night there.”2 So Reality can know only Light, for All is Spirit.
This is the light
– this understanding –
that brings your peace of mind to other minds, to share it and be glad that they are one with you and with themselves.
For in this Light We clearly see there is no separation; because this Light brings Us understanding, which is a whole different kind of Vision.
This is the light which heals because it brings single perception, based upon one frame of reference from which one meaning comes.
Good alone is Real, is the Holy Truth on which We do rely consistently. Here is where I stood to heal 2000 years ago, and where I am still standing.
4 Here are both giving and receiving seen as different aspects of one Thought Whose truth does not depend on which is seen as first, nor which appears to be in second place. Here it is understood that both occur together, that the Thought remain complete.
This is the key to understanding that there is no separation of any kind. They are simply one single act, just as Giver and Receiver are also One. Let Me put it this way, using the ice skating jump the triple axel.3 You can read below the moves that go into it, and they are not separate, one from another although the skate goes from one edge to another. Just so with giving and receiving: they are elements of one act of beauty.
And in this understanding is the base on which all opposites are reconciled because they are perceived from the same frame of reference which unifies this Thought.
And if the opposites are diametrically opposed to one another – one being anathema to God – then one is just the suppositious opposite, such as good and so-called ‘evil’. (Which is but ‘live’ spelled backwards.) Just so, as ‘dark’ is proved to be impossible to Spirit.
5 One thought, completely unified, will serve to unify all thought. This is the same as saying one correction will suffice for all correction or that to forgive one brother wholly is enough to bring salvation to all minds.
For once You have really seen the Christ, You see Him everywhere. And every One is healed for minds are joined.
For these are but some special cases of one law which holds for every kind of learning if it be directed by the One Who knows the truth.
In other words: Pay attention to Me, for Christ is but synonymous with Truth. Even when My words are hard to take, do not get offended like the Pharisees, but ask Me for help, expectant always of Your healing.
6 To learn that giving and receiving are the same has special usefulness because it can be tried so easily and seen as true.
Although at this moment You may doubt it.
And when this special case has proved it always works in every circumstance where it is tried, the thought behind it can be generalized to other areas of doubt and double vision.
You are wondering if doubt is always double vision? Indeed, it is; for what does it doubt but God’s eternal, and ever-present Goodness.
And from there it will extend and finally arrive at the one Thought Which underlies them all.5
7 Today we practice with the special case of giving and receiving. We will use this simple Lesson in the obvious because it has results we cannot miss. To give is to receive.
Be patient! Listen!
Today we will attempt to offer peace to everyone and see how quickly peace returns to us.
Oh yes! Now You see! What You focus on comes right back to Thee!
Light is tranquility,
– for, indeed, You see –
and in that peace is vision given us and we can see.
You will quickly find that this is true quite universally. You must have something or You can’t give it.
This is surely obvious in receiving Guidance, that You must first receive in order to give it. As You give it, You get continually clearer in Your own understanding of what I am re-minding every One. Gifts shared increase quite exponentially!
8 So we begin the practice periods with the instruction for today and say:
9 To give and to receive are one in truth.
I will receive what I am giving now.
What does My Brother need? Is it what I would like to receive?
10 Then close your eyes, and for five minutes think of what you would hold out to everyone to have it yours. You might, for instance, say:
11 To everyone I offer quietness.
To everyone I offer peace of mind.
To everyone I offer gentleness.To every One I offer the joy of feeling God’s great Love! … Share how good it feels, belovèd Sister!
It feels wonderful. He’s right every One! This is amazing.
12 Say each one slowly, and then pause a while, expecting to receive the gift you gave, and it will come to you in the amount in which you gave it. You will find you have exact return, for this is what you asked. It might be helpful, too, to think of one to whom to give your gifts. He represents the others, and through him you give to all.
And if You know those in special need, feel free to give to them quite specifically.
13 Our very simple lesson for today will teach you much. Effect and cause will be far better understood from this time on, and we will make much faster progress now.
Keep close in mind this basic Truth: Minds are joined. Let Me but think well of My Others.
Think of the exercises for today as quick advances in your learning, made still faster and more sure each time you say:
14 To give and to receive are one in truth.
And remember that: “Freely You have received, freely give,”3 are like the parts of a triple axel4: one grand glorious move.

Jesus’ note: Most of the time, when You see Your Brothers, You are seeing a man/woman that isn’t really there, for You see a ‘human’ and not the Son of God. So this poem really is quite apt. I will keep repeating this until You finally get it. We All are the Son of God, and every One is included.2Revelation 22:5 King James Version

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

Each element is part of one amazing whole, just as giving and receiving are.
