L e s s o n  93

Light and joy and peace abide in me.

Yet am I not separate from them at all, so We can clearly say: Light, Joy and Peace abide as We, right here, where We are; for what is Truth for Me must of necessity be the Truth for All My Brothers.
There is a Reality of Thee and Me beyond Our present comprehension that is wonderful, despite Your poor opinion of Yourself.

1 You think you are the home of evil, darkness, and sin.  You’re always thinking, and this thought is always detrimental, for while You think, You can’t hear the Voice for God, which speaks to You. You’re too busy with Your thoughts of evil. You think if anyone could see the truth about you he would be repelled, recoiling from you as if from a poisonous snake. You think if what is true about you were revealed to you, you would be struck with horror so intense that you would rush to death by your own hand, living on after seeing this being impossible. You think, You think, You think, You think; the problem is Your thinking, which is but a function of the ego, and very far from the Holy Spirit, Your Reality!
You need not dwell in erroneous dreams, or in pleasant ones. You can be free from their tenacious grip!

2 These are beliefs so firmly fixed that it is difficult to help you see that they are based on nothing. They are nothing but ego suggestions. The ego has no love for You at all, wishing but control necessary for its own survival. That you have made mistakes is obvious. That you have sought salvation in strange ways—have been deceived, deceiving, and afraid of foolish fantasies and savage dreams and have bowed down to idols made of dust—all this is true by what you now believe. And Your beliefs are quite erroneous; far from germane to God’s Reality.

3 Today we question this, not from the point of view of what you think, but from a very different reference point from which such idle thoughts are meaningless. So is most thinking. These thoughts are not according to God’s Will. Which You have completely misunderstood, thinking it is harsh. Quite the contrary; the Will of God holds only good for You. These weird beliefs He does not share with you. This is enough to prove that they are wrong, but you do not perceive that this is so. And even when so instructed, the mind does not really believe this truth at all, so ingrained is it in thoughts that God is some giant human. It is quite fond of its own beliefs, no matter how painful.

4 Why would you not be overjoyed to be assured that all the evil that you think you did was never done, that all your “sins” are nothing, that you are as pure and holy as you were created, and that light and joy and peace abide in you? Well no, not really, for the entire ego structure is based on sin and guilt, including Your religions. Supposedly God is good, and You are evil. Yet You do not trust His Goodness, thinking Him unstable as You. And this belief is surely not the Truth. Your image of yourself cannot withstand the Will of God. Which knows but Your Holy Reality. Take that Knowing to Your heart; cherish It. You think that this is death, but it is life. You think you are destroyed, but you are saved. Your image which You have of You, is not real. God’s You is but the one Reality!

5 The self you made is not the Son of God. Therefore, this self does not exist at all. It is that word You love so much: a phantasmagoria! And anything it seems to do and think means nothing. Its seeming reality is as illusive as itself. It is neither bad nor good. It simply isn’t! It is unreal and nothing more than that. It does not battle with the Son of God. It does not hurt him nor attack his peace. It has not changed creation nor reduced eternal sinlessness to sin and love to hate. What power can this self you made possess when it would contradict the Will of God? For the ‘You’ that made it did not co-create – nor did it consult at all – with God.

6 Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. Drink these words in like a thirsty woman lost and alone in an endless desert. Over and over this must be repeated until it is accepted. Embrace this sweet Truth of Your Purity, untouched by all past insecurity. It is true. Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. Can You feel the Love behind these sweet words? It stretches past Infinity and for all Eternity. Nothing can touch it nor can change what God created as eternal. As the Bible says: Your sins may be scarlet, yet You are as clean and pure as snow that’s just fresh-fallen.1 The self you made, evil and full of sin, is meaningless. It is but a pointless parody of God’s Reality. Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God, and light and joy and peace abide in you. These qualities are Your real Substance. You are not “brain, blood, bones” but rather Light, Joy Peace expressed as You. Let that all sink in; indeed, You are not a body. You are Love’s Living Presence; right here and right now, despite all the seeming claims of ‘matter’. Watch them vanish as You choose to waken!

7 Salvation requires the acceptance of but one thought—you are as God created you, not what you made of yourself. God makes perfection, always present tense. This means that right now You are just perfect. Whatever evil you may think you did, you are as God created you. Whatever mistakes you made, the truth about you is unchanged. Your dreams of evil and of all of Your mistakes are just that: only dreams. They are not Reality. Dreams have no substance. They speak but of Your semi-conscious thinking as a Dreamer. Creation is eternal and unalterable. It stands forever! Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God are words lovelier than Psalm Twenty-three. Words You can cherish. You are and will forever be exactly as you were created. God’s Living Presence: You are sweet and strong and calm and lovely; forever Spirit. Light and joy and peace abide in you because God put them there. They are Your Substance.

8 In our longer exercise periods today, which would be most profitable if done for the first five minutes of every waking hour, we will begin by stating the truth about our creation:

9 Light and joy and peace abide in me. They are far realer than the colour of My eyes or skin, or My so-called gender. We will repeat this: They are My Substance! As is sinlessness. My sinlessness is guaranteed by God. And His guarantees are quite eternal.

10 Then put away your foolish self-images and spend the rest of the practice period in trying to experience what God has given you in place of what you have decreed for yourself. Just sit still and humble, yet expectant of hearing the Voice for Love speak to You. It always is; You just aren’t hearing, because You aren’t listening for It. You are quite pre-occupied with ego.

11 You are what God created or what you made. One Self is true; the other is not there. Which one will You choose? Will it be Reality? Or will it be Your fantasy? Which one seems more appealing to You? Remember, though, that Reality is God. Try to experience the unity of your One Self. One with God and One with all Creation. Try to appreciate its holiness and the love from which it was created. This Self is so exquisite. More beautiful than all the stars that sing together of God’s Unity. Try not to interfere with the Self which God created as you by hiding its majesty behind the tiny idols of evil and sinfulness you have made to replace it. If You would see Yourself as You really are, You would sing joyously with wonder. Let it come into its own. Here you are. This is you. And light and joy and peace abide in you because this is so. Repeating once again: Light and Joy and Peace are Your Substance. And in addition to their Beauty, They are quite Eternal for They presence God.

12 You may not be willing or even able to use the first five minutes of each hour for these exercises. Try, however, to do so when you can. At least remember to repeat these thoughts each hour:

13 Light and joy and peace abide in me.
My sinlessness is guaranteed by God. Light and Joy and Peace are Me. They are My eternal Be-ing.
The radiance of the stars and sun, the child’s happy and delighted laughter, the peace of deep meditation, all are part of wondrous Me, (really wondrous Us) the Self designed by God.

14 Then try to devote at least a minute or so to closing your eyes and realizing that this is a statement of the truth about you. And then be curious to see Your Self!

15 If a situation arises that seems to be disturbing, quickly dispel the illusion of fear by repeating these thoughts again. Should you be tempted to become angry with someone, tell him silently:
16 Light and joy and peace abide in you.As they do as Me. Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. Your Self is just as lovely as Mine is.

17 You can do much for the world’s salvation today. This is True for every One, all seven billion of Us and still multiplying! You can do much today to bring you closer to the part in salvation which God has assigned to you. And you can do much today to bring the conviction to your mind that the idea for the day is true indeed. Then have some curiosity to SEE!
