What Is the Ego?

 

That is for sure the big sixty-four thousand dollar question!  Who can answer it but elder Brother!

¹ The ego is idolatry – worship of One’s own self in place of God -the sign of limited and separated self, – that believes it was – born in a body, doomed to suffer and to end its life in death.  Such are the parameters of dreaming. It is the will that sees the Will of God as enemy and takes a form in which It is denied. It is the lying voice that screamed “Vengeance is mine!” then attributed it to God, and pushed Him off into the sky somewhere distant, putting the lie to Our Father-Mother’s ever-Presence.

 

The ego is the “proof” that strength is weak and love is fearful, life is really death, and what opposes God alone is true.  Reality has been pushed down the rabbit hole and through the looking-glass till it has become quite unrecognizable.  Yet, will to really see, and It will appear right here for You.

You’ll call It a miracle, yet It is but Reality!  For It is Your return to Sanity!

 

² The ego is insane. – That is very plain.  It’s all loss, no gain, this experience of separation. No good has ever come forth from it, and no good ever will. But- but- You sputter, what about the Sistine Chapel, David from Michaelagelo, high speed jets, exquisite sunsets, Mother Teresa, and the Internet?  Goldendoodles, whole wheat noodles, the whole’kit and caboodle, all these things are created by the ego!Let’s say this correctly: the Truth is, all these things but noodles are some form of Reality distorted by the ego. In fear it stands beyond the Everywhere, – the willful ego – apart from All, in separation from the Infinite. Is it, then, a surprise that the dream is filled with ways to avoid loneliness, the bitter fruit of special relationships; the hallmark of dreams.

 

In its insanity it thinks it has become a victor over God Himself, and in its terrible autonomy, it “sees” the Will of God has been destroyed. Remember periodicals proclaiming the death of God? The grandiosity of the ego claims to reign supreme.

It dreams of punishment and trembles at the figures in its dreams, its enemies who seek to murder it before it can ensure its safety by attacking them.  It sounds like politics.  That’s no surprise!  One’s experience but patterns One’s thoughts.

One the other hand, thanks be unto God, Source of the Son of God You are, for He is but Saviour come to show You Heaven’s own solution.

³ The Son of God is egoless. Therefore, He is quite free, eternally. What can he know of madness and the death of God when he abides in Him? It is in “the secret place of the Most High” that the Son of God lives throughout Eternity, One with God, His Holy Source; His Father-Mother. What can he know of sorrow and of suffering when he lives in eternal joy? Cared for like the HolyThing S/He is, so S/He does care for every other Brother; for Love’s Ideas leave not their Holy, Eternal Source.  A dream cannot affect Reality at all. The Dreamer is always free to Waken. Waking is Reality, not dreaming. Therefore, is S/He free. What can he know of fear and punishment, of sin and guilt, of hatred and attack when all there is surrounding him is everlasting peace, forever conflict-free and undisturbed in deepest silence and tranquility?  It is important here to say that this “silence and tranquility” is never static, never boring, but is rich with Life so vibrant and so joyous that each Holy Instant is absolutely perfect and fulfilling.

Not only are You Loved by God and safe with All Your Brothers, but You also are purely Loving just as You’re Be-ing Loved.  The happiness of this experience cannot be described by words. For it surpasses any possible description!  It has to be felt, for Love’s Reality is beyond words.

⁴ To know Reality is not to see the ego and its thoughts, its works, its acts, its laws and its beliefs, its dreams, its hopes, its plans for its salvation, and the cost belief in it entails.  None of it is real, no matter how ‘convincing’ it does seem.  So do nighttime dreams.  In suffering, the price for faith in it is so immense that crucifixion of the Son of God is offered daily at its darkened shrine and blood must flow before the altar where its sickly followers prepare for death. You think that I exaggerate?  Then just read the daily news.  If anything, I have understated, for the news gives not the magnitude of the selfishness engendered by the dream.

⁵ Yet will one lily of forgiveness change the darkness into light, the altar to illusions to the shrine of Life Itself.  Will You give this Gift to All Your Brothers, for then They’ll gladly gift it back to You. And peace will be restored forever to the holy minds which God created as His Son, His dwelling-place, His joy, His love, completely His, completely one with Him.  For this Oneness is Eternal happiness and peace for each Holy One of You.

You will not be bored!  Boredom is unknown to Heaven, which is both fascinating and a lot of fun, and also peaceful.  Again, words fall far short of this Eternal Experience … until You try It.
