LESSON ONE HUNDRED-EIGHTY-ONE

I trust my brothers, who are one with me. 

Feel the Family closeness which is necessary to experience this kind of Love and Awareness. Quite remarkable.

¹ Trusting your brothers is essential to establishing and holding up your faith in your ability to transcend doubt and lack of sure conviction in yourself. This, therefore, calls for a change in the use of Your Vision. What will You will to see? Will it be hatred, or will it be Love. When you attack a brother, you proclaim that he is limited by what you have perceived in him. In other words, You are the judge and the executioner. You do not look beyond his errors. Rather, they are magnified, – for they are what You want to see in Him – becoming blocks to your awareness of the Self that lies beyond your own mistakes and past his seeming sins as well as yours. Understand that how You see Your Brother is the way You will see Yourself as well.

² Perception has a focus. You see what You want to see, although You believe differently! It is this which gives consistency to what you see. Change but this focus, and what you behold will change accordingly. Change what You will to see, and You’ll see Your Brother differently. Your vision now will shift to give support to the intent which has replaced the one you held before. It’s so amazing! Remove your focus on your brother’s sins, and you experience the peace that comes from faith in sinlessness. I know this is hard to do! “They are wrong!” screeches the ego! This faith receives its only sure support from what you see in others past their sins. I’m asking You to see beyond the dream, to Reality. For their mistakes, if focused on, are witnesses to sins in you. (sins just as unreal) And you will not transcend their sight and see the sinlessness that lies beyond. I know this asks a lot, for Your Brother’s sins are so compelling. Well, so is the dream. Yet, can You transcend one without transcending the other?

³ Therefore, in practicing today, we first let all such little focuses give way to our great need to let our sinlessness become apparent. How do You do this? First comes willingness. For that little willingness is so much more important than You can imagine. We instruct our minds that it is this we seek and only this, for just a little while. Let Yourself step into another realm. It’s the realm of Now; no past, no future. We do not care about our future goals, and what we saw an instant previous has no concern for us within this interval of time wherein we practice changing our intent. Again, this is Now. We seek for innocence and nothing else. We seek for it with no concern but now. Only in Reality is Now found, and vice versa. Only in Now can Reality appear and can be experienced by You.

⁴ A major hazard to success has been involvement with your past and future goals. Get out of the past and future! Leave them. They are but dead ends! You have been quite preoccupied with how extremely different the goals this course is advocating are from those you held before. And you have also been dismayed by the depressing and restricting thought that, even if you should succeed, you will inevitably lose your way again. What would say something that discouraging?  Only the ego. How could this matter? It’s always wrong for it can’t dwell in Now. Only Now is Real. For the past is gone, the future but imagined. These concerns are but defenses against present change of focus in perception. Nothing more. For the ego wishes to control You.

⁵ We lay these pointless limitations by a little while. The ego just loves to keep Us stuck, if We allow it to. The Holy Spirit sings a different song. Let us sing with It instead of ego! We do not look to past beliefs, and what we will believe will not intrude upon us now. We’re gladly staying in the present moment. How good that feels! Here now, present now. We enter in the time of practicing with one intent—to look upon the sinlessness within. Found only in now; not past or future. We recognize that we have lost this goal if anger blocks our way in any form. Are We not always angered by something in the past, or dreaded in the future? And if a brother’s sins occur to us, – they are not right now, these past tense grudges – our narrowed focus will restrict our sight and turn our eyes upon our own mistakes, which we will magnify and call our “sins.” We don’t dwell on them or on Our Brother’s. Why would We for it brings but misery?

⁶ So, for a little while, without regard to past or future, – ignoring the dream – should such blocks arise, we will transcend them with instructions to our minds to change their focus, as we say:

⁷ It is not this that I would look upon.
I trust my brothers, who are one with me. I would see only with the eyes of the holy Christ, which sees God’s Reality.

⁸ And we will also use these thoughts to keep us safe throughout the day. For everything relies upon thinking. We do not seek for long range goals. Just to change Our minds in every instant. As each obstruction seems to block the vision of our sinlessness, we seek but for surcease an instant from the misery the focus upon sin will bring, and uncorrected will remain. Not only can We, but We assuredly must change focus.

⁹ Nor do we ask for fantasies. We only want Our true Reality. For what we seek to look upon is really there. And daydreams aren’t. And as our focus goes beyond mistakes, we will behold a wholly sinless world. This is possible! That I promise You. For You always get what You desire. (So don’t let You be run by the ego!) When seeing this is all we want to see, when this is all we seek for in the name of true perception, are the eyes of Christ inevitably ours. Same eyes look through the mindset of Christ or mindset of ego. So let Us choose Christ. And the love He feels for us becomes our own as well. When We will to understand that All of Us are truly One. This will become the only thing we see reflected in the world and in ourselves. For Christ really is the only Presence.

¹⁰ The world which once proclaimed our sins becomes the proof that we are sinless. When seen with eyes of God that can only see Reality. And our love for everyone we look upon attests to our remembrance of the holy Self Which knows no sin and never could conceive of anything without Its sinlessness. Where All of Us are One, and All of Us are oh so Holy. We seek for this remembrance as we turn our minds to practicing today. We look neither ahead nor backwards. We look straight into the present. Squarely in the Now. And we give our trust to the experience we ask for now. Our sinlessness is but the Will of God. How very perfect He is seeing Us. This instant is our willing one with His. This brings Us into harmony with Him.
