LESSON ONE HUNDRED SIXTY SEVEN

L e s s o n  167

There is one life, and that I share with God.

As well as all My belovèd Brothers; belovèd Others, including clouds and trees and cows and fish and birds and every thing that comes from God, for It’s all Holy!

¹ There are not different kinds of life, for life is like the truth. Life simply is as It’s another Name for God Eternal. It does not have degrees.  Life is the Truth of all Reality. It is the one condition in which all that God created share. Life is All there is. Like all His Thoughts, it has no opposite. For what thing real can be opposed to God? The answer? Nothing!  There is no death because what God created shares His Life. And is Life Itself. There is no death because an opposite to God does not exist. There is nothing of Reality that is not God as well. Be-ing God, Reality must be Good. By this You now can discern between the Real and the unreal. And there is no exception to this rule. There is no death because the Father and the Son are one. God and Reality is One, and all Things Real are part of this Holy One. One is forever.

 

² In this world there appears to be a state that is life’s opposite. You call it death. Just as there seems to be an opposite to Good, which You call ‘evil’. Neither one is real. Both are an illusion; inventions of the ego. Yet we have learned that the idea of death takes many forms. It is the one idea which underlies all feelings that are not supremely happy. It is the alarm to which you give response of any kind that is not perfect joy. All sorrow, loss, anxiety, and suffering and pain, even a little sigh of weariness, a slight discomfort or the merest frown, acknowledge death. And thus deny you live. For so-called ‘death’ acknowledges so-called ‘evil’. And both of these strange concepts are patently unreal.

³ You think that death is of the body. Yet it is but an idea, irrelevant to what is seen as physical. All seeming ‘death’ takes place because of the state of consciousness, not of the body! A thought is in the mind. It can be then applied as mind directs it. But its origin is where it must be changed if change occurs.  You think an aspirin helps a headache; it may do that if You do believe it will. Only Your beliefs in this or that thing can bring about an experience of a seeming healing. Ideas leave not their source. The emphasis this course has placed on that idea is due to its centrality in our attempts to change your mind about yourself. It is the reason you can heal. It is the cause of healing. If You would heal or be healed, You must pay attention to Your mind, not Your body. It is why you cannot die. Its truth established you as one with God. God is Your Source; You are His Idea. You cannot be separated from Him.

Obviously, You cannot really die, so why don’t You give up that whole charade? Turn Yourselves and live! I mean really live!

⁴ Death is the thought that you are separate from your Creator. A state of mind that is basic to those who would stay Dreamers. After all, You’ve got to be able to so-called ‘die’ when the dream gets boring or worse still, too stressful! Otherwise You can’t get into still another dream. (The Dreamer routine!) It is the belief conditions change, emotions alternate because of causes you cannot control, you did not make, and you can never change. These are but the parameters You invented for the dream. They work ‘well’ if You really enjoy dreaming. I might as well say misery, for how much fun is a dream where You or Your loved Ones always surely end up dying? What is behind this but insanity. It is the fixed belief ideas can leave their source and take on qualities the source does not contain, becoming different from their own origin, apart from it in kind as well as distance, time, and form. The entire dream is inconsistent.

Please pay close attention here to the reasoning that follows:

⁵ Death cannot come from life. Surely that is clear. Ideas remain united to their source. Just as the Rays never leave the Sun, no matter how far their extension, You and God can”t be parted. What is One must stay that way forever. They can extend all that their source contains. In that they can go far beyond themselves. But they cannot give birth to what was never given them. In  addition, there is no birth to anything for always has no beginning. As they are made, so will their making be. As they were born, so will they then give birth. And where they come from, there will they return. I am not being inconsistent. As I use the term ‘birth’ here, I am referring to constant unfoldment of an holy idea that’s forever new; just as the term ‘new birth’ means a transformation. All things must be constantly unfolding because this is Infinity.

⁶ The mind can think it sleeps, but that is all. It cannot change what is its waking state. In other words, You’re dreaming that You’re dreaming! It cannot make a body nor abide within a body. And in Your dream, You dream You have a body, and then You dream that You believe it! What is alien to the mind does not exist – despite its ‘seeming’ – because it has no source. For mind creates all things that are – (all Reality) – and cannot give them attributes it lacks nor change its own eternal, mindful state. It cannot become a body because: It cannot make the physical. There’s only Spirit! What seems to die is but the sign of mind asleep. Asleep deliberately so it can dream unreality and then it does pretend that it is ‘real’. Though You believe it, it is still a dream. You but fool Yourself.

I know this seems harsh. Yet the result of dreams are harsher still. Would You not waken?

⁷ The opposite of life can only be another form of life. Albeit far from the loveliness of God’s Reality. As such, it can be reconciled with what created it because it is not opposite in truth. Its form may change; it may appear to be what it is not. Yet mind is mind awake or sleeping. And what are sleep and dreams but games of “Let’s pretend what isn’t.” that are addictive. It is not its opposite in anything created nor in what it seems to make when it believes it sleeps. In Your dreams, You dream that You are dreaming. How real, how fascinating do they seem, and so compelling. Such an exciting game, so much more ‘fun’ than the Peace of God. So speaks the ego, and You believe it, and keep on dreaming.

Hence the separation does continue, as does unnecessary suffering. And yet the choice continues to be Yours. Why not be happy?

⁸ God creates only mind awake. He does not sleep, and His creations cannot share what He gives not nor make conditions which He does not share with them. The thought of death is not the opposite to thoughts of life. It just isn’t real. Forever unopposed by opposites of any kind, the Thoughts of God remain forever changeless with the power to extend forever changelessly but yet within Themselves, for They are everywhere. They have gone nowhere! You’re only dreaming, and You can waken. You think I am repetitive? Well, tell Me: what is dreaming?

⁹ What seems to be the opposite of life is merely sleeping. Again, I repeat: You can Awaken. When the mind elects to be what it is not and to assume an alien power which it does not have, a foreign state it cannot enter or a false condition not within its Source, it merely seems to go to sleep a while. It dreams of time—an interval in which what seems to happen never has occurred, the changes wrought are substanceless, and all events are nowhere. Despite what seems an enormous dream, seven billion ‘strong’, it still remains a dream and has no power. When the mind awakes, it but continues as it always was.

¹⁰ Let us today be children of the truth and not deny our holy heritage. Our life is not as we imagine it. We give to it supposed ‘reality’. Who changes life because he shuts his eyes or makes himself what he is not because he sleeps and sees in dreams an opposite to what he is? We will not ask for death in any form today. Instead, We choose Life! Nor will we let imagined opposites to life abide even an instant where the Thought of life eternal has been set by God Himself. For We Love God much more than idle dreams.

¹¹ His holy home – Our mind, not body – we strive to keep today as He established it, and wills it be forever and forever. He is Lord of what we think today. And in His Thoughts, which have no opposite, we understand there is one life and that we share with Him, with all creation, with their thoughts as well, whom He created in a unity of life that cannot separate in death and leave the Source of Life from where it came. We now remember that We can – and We will – change Our thinking!

¹² We share our life because we have one Source, a Source from Which perfection comes to us, – Our most belovèd Father-Mother God – remaining always in the holy minds which He created perfect. As we were, so are we now and will forever be. A sleeping mind must waken as it sees its own perfection mirroring the Lord of Life so perfectly it fades into what is reflected there, becoming Presence. And now it is no more a mere reflection. It becomes the thing reflected and the light which makes reflection possible. No vision now is needed. For the wakened mind is one that knows its Source, its Self, its holiness. The Son of God is so glad to be Home.
