LESSON ONE HUNDRED SIXTY THREE

L e s s o n  163

There is no death. The Son of God is free.

Free to see just how He is meant to be: the Holy Spirit. As Holy Spirit We are forever life, forever happy, forever free.

¹ Death is a thought which takes on many forms, often unrecognized. All negative and uncomfortable. It may appear as sadness, fear, anxiety, or doubt; as anger, faithlessness, and lack of trust; concern for bodies, envy, and all forms in which the wish to be as you are not may come to tempt you. Take Your pick, none of them are appealing but to the ego.  All such thoughts are but reflections of the worshipping of death as savior and as giver of release. For death is the acme – perhaps nadir is more appropriate – of the ego’s meager offerings. The most ‘fulfilling’ it holds out to You; which it maliciously makes the prerequisite to Heaven.

Let’s pause here and take a real clear look at this entrenched belief system: first God exists with no expression like Himself. What? (Could there be the Sun without all the Rays? Obviously not. Need there be story for What Always Is?)

Eventually He makes skies and earth, then two different kinds of a ‘likeness’ of Himself. Apparently done with this making, He hands His ideas the job of their multiplying.

And when they are a disappointment, tells them: NowYou have got to die to get Yourself back to Heaven. (Hear the Truth: Heaven is God’s home, and All are always welcome. Reality is that We’ve never left!)

Why have I talked at length on this topic? Because Course students keep on ‘dying’ instead of waking up! You have forgotten that this whole scenario of so-called ‘life’ and ‘death’ that I laid out is simply nothing but a dream, and You can waken!

What keeps You here but a deep addiction to ego dreaming. That’s it; nothing else.

² Embodiment of fear, the host of sin, god of the guilty, and the lord of all illusions and deceptions, does the thought of death – and rumours of hell – seem mighty. Yet You allow it, for You believe this travesty of God: this awful lie that says God is not Love! The ego insists that God is death’s author, when – in Truth – it is none but ego! For it seems to hold all living things within its withered hand; all hopes and wishes in its blighting grasp. All goals perceived but in its sightless eyes. The frail, the helpless, and the sick bow down before its image, thinking it alone is real, inevitable, worthy of their trust. And They say: “Amen.”For it alone will surely come. Do You seriously believe that God’s hand is behind this? If so, then You are but self-deluded.

³ All things but death are seen to be unsure, too quickly lost however hard to gain, uncertain in their outcome, apt to fail the hopes they once engendered and to leave the taste of dust and ashes in their wake in place of aspirations and of dreams. But death is counted on. Why would You listen to the ego but that You look forward to dying so that You can be ‘re-born’, again, and still again, ad nauseum. For it will come with certain footsteps when the time has come for its arrival. It will never fail to take all life as hostage to itself. Yet You made up the ‘law’ and did teach Yourself to bow down to it and worship it. To admit that would be embarrassing. So the ego made God responsible for so-called ‘dying’. Since You are in charge, does this not make all so-called ‘deaths’ to be really suicides?

⁴ Would you bow down to idols such as this? Here is the strength and might of God Himself perceived within an idol made of dust. How preposterous, and how insulting! Here is the opposite of God proclaimed as lord of all creation, stronger than God’s Will for life, the endlessness of love and Heaven’s perfect, changeless constancy. Why do You believe such nonsense? Because it is part of the agreement with the ego (a.k.a. ‘devil’) that keeps You locked in the belief that You are ‘human’, instead of Divine. Here is the Will of Father and of Son defeated finally and laid to rest beneath the headstone death has placed upon the body of the holy Son of God. And You All do it to Yourselves, for so-called ‘death’ truly is no part of God and no part of You. ‘Dying’ is a dream from which You can awaken.

Good news, isn’t it? Good news for the Son of God, and not good news for the ego!

⁵ Unholy in defeat, he has become what death would have him be. His epitaph, which death itself has written, gives no name to him, for he has passed to dust. It says but this: “Here lies a witness God is dead.” And this it writes again and still again, while all the while its worshippers agree, and kneeling down with foreheads to the ground, they whisper fearfully that it is so. It would be quite amusing if it were a farce on Broadway! On par with “Sit down! You’re rockin’ the boat!”₁

And that is the attitude toward those who say that ‘death’ is but a foolish mistake.

⁶ It is impossible to worship death in any form and still select a few you would not cherish and would yet avoid while still believing in the rest. For death is total. Either all things die or else they live and cannot die. It must always be one or the other. No compromise is possible. ‘One or the other’; keep those words in mind, for they are the truth. For here again we see an obvious position which we must accept if we be sane; what contradicts one thought entirely can not be true unless its opposite is proven false. Yes this Truth is quite helpful in prayer.

⁷ The idea of the death of God is so preposterous that even the insane have difficulty in believing it, since it is just that ridiculous. For it implies that God was once alive and somehow perished, killed, apparently, by those who did not want him to survive. Their stronger will could triumph over His, and so eternal life gave way to death. And with the Father died the Son as well. Who could actually believe this but the simple-minded, those to whom the idea of God is an anathema. You may take exception to “simple-minded” yet it refers not to those who seem to be slow of thought, but rather to who think themselves to be little demi-gods. That is quite foolish, leaving One with no recourse beyond One’s little seeming ‘self’.

⁸ Death’s worshippers may be afraid. And yet can thoughts like these be fearful? They are but mistakes; completely lacking a reality. Beliefs make nothing real. They are but empty delusions of the so-called ‘believer’. And even ‘belief’ in God does not come close to the vibrant experience that there is God whose Name is Love! How much weaker is this negative belief in the ego’s empty invention: ‘dying’. If they saw that it is only this which they believed, they would be instantly released. And you will show them this today. There is no death, and we renounce it now in every form for their salvation and our own as well. There is no end to anything that is Real and Good; for Reality is both Good and Eternal; (with no exceptions!). God made not death. So how can You die, without opposing God, which is so clearly impossible! Whatever form it takes must therefore be illusion. Which means We must, therefore, be deluded! This the stand we take today. And it is given us to look past death and see the light beyond. This includes the ‘little deaths’ of cherished hopes and relationships, et cetera. Give not in to them.

At the very least, they can hold the greatest blessings for You, as You see loss turn to a better gain.

⁹ Our Father, bless our eyes today. That We may learn to see more like You do. We are Your messengers, and we would look upon the glorious reflection of Your Love which shines in everything. This Love that shines as Everything is You. We live and breathe in You alone. You are Our very Be-ing as We live and breathe as You. There’s no separation! We are Your Holy Manifestation. We are not separate from Your eternal life. There is no death, for death is not Your Will. And We would have but Your Will be Ours. And we abide where You have placed us, in the Life we share with You and with all living things, to be like You and part of You forever. We accept Your Thoughts as ours, – We need no others! – and our will is one with Yours eternally. Amen.
