LESSON TWO HUNDRED

There is no peace except the peace of God.  To borrow a Dreamer phrase, this statement is a ‘no-brainer’.  For how could anyone or anything feel peace when separated from their Source.  Like a home with no foundation, a ship without a harbor, so is the separated Son of God without His Father.  Lost and miserable, looking everywhere for peace except to His Source.

¹ Seek you no further. You will not find peace except the peace of God. Accept this fact, and save yourself the agony of yet more bitter disappointments, bleak despair, and sense of icy hopelessness and doubt. Seek you no further. There is nothing else for you to find except the peace of God, unless you seek for misery and pain.  I am saying this to You quite clearly, am I not?  It’s not just Your peace but Your happiness as well that are to be found only in Your relationship with God. You have looked for these two treasures quite fruitlessly in things external to Your mind where God resides, and You have found them not.

² This is the final point to which each one must come at last, to lay aside all hope of finding happiness where there is none, of being saved by what can only hurt, of making peace of chaos, joy of pain and Heaven out of hell. Attempt no more to win through losing nor to die to live. You cannot but be asking for defeat.  You think that You will somehow lose Yourself if You yield to His wondrous Love for You.  For the ego controls Your mind in ways of which You are completely unaware.

Look how it touts independence and self-reliance, which are antithetical to Your relationship with God, and yet tells You that such things are fine in Your special relationships.

Inconsistency is the unsteady foundation of all the ego’s thinking.  And yet You continue to rely on it with perfect trust.

³ Yet you can ask as easily for love, for happiness, and for eternal life in peace that has no ending. –These things seem inconsequential to You, in the light of Your demand for a brand new car, going to the movies, a restaurant, or Your favorite tv show. Temporary palliatives that keep You firmly in the dream. Yet God’s gifts stand waiting for Your request. – Ask for this, and you can only win. To ask for what you have already must succeed. To ask that what is false be true can only fail.  Does this not make perfect sense to You?  It’s not complicated.  Truth is quite clear and unambiguous.  The ego, on the other hand, does use complexity to hide its evil machinations.

Forgive yourself for vain imaginings, and seek no longer what you cannot find.  Brothers, Sisters, let go any fixation You might have for outcomes in the dream, for they are worthless.  They but keep You dreaming so much longer.

For what could be more foolish than to seek and seek and seek again for hell, when you have but to look with open eyes to find that Heaven lies before you, through a door that opens easily to welcome you?  Why the attraction and propensity for hell?  The answer is always the same: because it keeps You squarely in the dream.

⁴ Come home. You have not found your happiness in foreign places and in alien forms which have no meaning to you, though you sought to make them meaningful. This world is not where you belong. You are a stranger here. But it is given you to find the means whereby the world no longer seems to be a prison house for you or anyone.  You search high and low for ‘heaven on earth’.  Remember that I said: Lift up Your eyes.  The fields are ripe for harvesting.”₁   Heaven isn’t earth, it’s Your very Mind.  “Lift up Your eyes” means to lift Your vision off from what You see ‘out there’ up to Your mind, Your consciousness.

Then You will see and understand just what I mean when I say:

⁵ Freedom is given you where you beheld but chains and iron doors. –The prison of thinking You are encased in ‘matter’ and it is the arbiter of everything for You.  No, it isn’t.  It isn’t arbiter because – literally – it isn’t! – For you must change your mind about the purpose of the world if you would find escape. You will be bound till all the world is seen by you as blessed and everyone made free of your mistakes and honored as he is. You made him not; no more yourself. And as you free the one, the other is accepted as he is.  This sounds like an overwhelming demand until You realize that this Vision that I ask of You takes place not in ‘matter’ ‘out there’ but as mind.  (I know I am being repetitious.  I’ll continue until You get it!)

⁶ What does forgiveness do? In truth it has no function and does nothing, for it is unknown in Heaven. It is only hell where it is needed and where it must serve a mighty function. Is not the escape of God’s beloved Son from evil dreams that he imagines, yet believes are true, a worthy purpose? Who could hope for more while there appears to be a choice to make between success and failure, love and fear?  The dream posits its opposite to God’ holy, healing Truth.

⁷ There is no peace except the peace of God because He has one Son, who cannot make a world in opposition to God’s Will and to his own, which is the same as His.  Let Us together reiterate what I am saying here:  The peace of God is the only peace there is because God is All there is.

For You to clearly understand this, You must cease from thinking that God is a super man up in the sky some where, with whom You are in competition.  Competition?  Well, what do You allow to be in charge of things, God or the ego?  By seeing God as person, given human willfulness, You have made of God a rival.

Realize instead, that All is thought, and God is the Sourcing Consciousness of All.  You cannot really have the alien thought of the malicious, self-serving ego.

What could he hope to find in such a world? It cannot have reality because it never was created. – Except in Your own imagination. – Is it here that he would seek for peace?  – In a place that is the antithesis of peace and, therefore, opposite to God. – Or must he see that, as he looks on it, the world can but deceive? – The dream to which You All are so attached. – Yet can he learn to look on it another way and find the peace of God.  Of course, You can, for God is Your Real Mind.  And would You not gratefully regain it?

⁸ Peace is the bridge that everyone will cross to leave this world behind. But peace begins within the world perceived as different and leading from this fresh perception to the gate of Heaven and the way beyond. Peace is the answer to conflicting goals, to senseless journeys, frantic, vain pursuits, and meaningless endeavors. Now the way is easy, sloping gently toward the bridge where freedom lies within the peace of God.  All You need do is to be here for giving.  And what do You give but the acknowledgement that what You see as a Brother is an illusion.

Then You silently ask forgiveness by acknowledging that He must be the Son of God, and ask then the Holy Spirit to please reveal His Reality to You.

⁹ Let us not lose our way again today. Like We have for countless days and eons.

We go to Heaven, and the path is straight. For We’re already here.  It’s just a matter of seeing it.

Only if we attempt to wander can there be delay and needless wasted time on thorny byways.  When We wander, We are lost in Our specious, so-called minds, seeing Our own miscreations, and then pretending they are real.

God alone is sure, and He will guide our footsteps. He will not desert His Son in need, nor let him stray forever from his home. The Father calls; the Son will hear. And that is all there is to what appears to be a world apart from God where bodies have reality.  God and All of Us – the Universe – as perfect happiness and harmony, whether or not We will to see It, It’s here!

¹⁰ Now is there silence. Seek no further. You have come to where the road is carpeted with leaves of false desires, fallen from the trees of hopelessness you sought before. Now are they underfoot.  They are like the ashes of a fire the Son of God did to Yourself, and now, thank God, You are finally undoing.  Rising from them like the Phoenix, You kicks them to dust as You begin to run Home in the happiness of Your return to Your Father-Mother.

And you look up and on toward Heaven, with the body’s eyes but serving for an instant longer now. Peace is already recognized at last, and you can feel its soft embrace surround your heart and mind with comfort and with love.  And You begin to experience again what it does mean to be Your precious HolyPresence of God’s Living Love and God’s Intelligence, and Your crucialimportance to all of God’s happy Heaven, which is incomplete without Your Presence.

¹¹ Today we seek no idols. Peace can not be found in them. – We want the real thing! – The peace of God is ours, and only this will we accept and want.  – The world’s false promises are but disappearing phantoms beneath Our winged feet as We race Home happily together. – Peace be to us today. For we have found a simple, happy way to leave the world of ambiguity and to replace our shifting goals and solitary dreams with single purpose and companionship. For peace is union if it be of God. We seek no further. We are close to home and draw still nearer every time we say:

¹² There is no peace except the peace of God,
And I am glad and thankful it is so.

INTRODUCTION to Lessons 181 – 200

^I181:1 Our next few lessons make a special point of firming up your willingness to make your weak commitment strong, your scattered goals blend into one intent. – All commitment does start with this one thing: just the little willingness to do it, whatever it takes.  So even if You do slip and fall, You get right up again. – You are not asked for total dedication all the time, as yet. But you are asked to practice now in order to attain the sense of peace such unified commitment will bestow, if only intermittently. It is experiencing this which makes it sure that you will give your total willingness to following the way the course sets forth.  How did He segue from the little willingness to total?!  (He is laughing hard!)  Only the ego would ask that question!  By now, don’t You think that You should know Me!  Give Me an inch of good, and I’ll give You back a mile of it.  Give Me a drop of Love, and I’ll return to You an ocean.

With what are We dealing but the Divine Qualities of God.  Life, Truth and Love.  Spirit, Soul and Mind.  Holy Divine Principle, Its Joy and Peace.  How precious are the attributes of God.  They are Your treasure.  And where Your treasure is, there is Your Love.

² Our lessons now are geared specifically to widening horizons – by loosening the ego’s stranglehold that it has on You – and direct approaches to the special blocks which keep your vision narrow and too limited to let you see the value of our goal.  What has it been that has severely narrowed Your horizons?

Well, what else but sir and lady ego?

We are attempting now to lift these blocks, however briefly. Words alone can not convey the sense of liberation which their lifting brings. – Yes, that day that Helen had, recounted in “Absence From Felicity”₁ is a perfect example.  Every day – and every moment can and will be like that! – But the experience of freedom and of peace that comes as you give up your tight control of what you see speaks for itself. Your motivation will be so intensified that words become of little consequence. You will be sure of what you want and what is valueless.  The ego will attempt to deter Your progress, tell You that You can’t sustain such an experience.  And yet the ego is always lying.  Do not believe it.  Tell it to shut up, and really mean it!

³ And so we start our journey beyond words by concentrating first on what impedes our progress still. Experience of what exists beyond defensiveness remains beyond achievement while it is denied. It may be there, but you cannot accept its presence.  For You are quite defended against It.  And what does live in the Silence but experience of perfect Love and safety. So we now attempt to go past all defenses for a little while each day. No more than this is asked because no more than this is needed. It will be enough to guarantee the rest will come.  One Holy Moment is but a promise of All which await Your invitation!
