LESSON ONE HUNDRED-EIGHTY-FOUR

L e s s o n  184

The Name of God is my inheritance.  For is Name but just the same as Nature.

¹ You live by symbols. You have made up names for everything you see. Each one becomes a separate entity, identified by its own name.  You have not begun to really understand that such separation is nothing for it is just simply impossible.

By this you carve it out of unity.  As We have said: What is the thumb without the entire hand?  This explanation is separation.

By this you designate its special attributes and set it off from other things by emphasizing space surrounding it. You make it ‘special’.  Thus was ‘space’ created.  Do You understand this?  Ahh!  It’s dawning that separation is not a thing, but an imaginary way of blindness so-called ‘seeing’. This space you lay between all things to which you give a different name-all happenings in terms of place and time, all bodies which are greeted by a name.  You are beginning to grasp what I am saying, although not clearly, just how greatly skewed is the so-called ‘vision’ of every single Dreamer.

² This space you see as setting off all things from one another is the means by which the world’s perception is achieved. – All things set off from all other things – this mindset – is all there is to separation!  Nothing has really ever happened!  You are but day-dreaming it all. – You see something where nothing is – yes, ‘separation’ – and see as well nothing where there is unity-a space between all things, between all things and you. – You are laughing because You see how pointless cars and planes are to Reality. Indeed, funny was how it first appeared, until You had an instant addiction. – Thus do you think that you have given life in separation. By this split you think you are established as a unity which functions with an independent will.  And, You think You have a body separate from all other bodies.  Yet body is Identity, and Identity is but Unity. Brother don’t worry if You don’t yet understand it.  You will.  Then will Your sorrow but turn to laughter!

Although You are quite used to this skewed way of thinking, it will be easy to exchange for the better.

³ What are these names by which the world becomes a series of discrete events, of things un-unified, of bodies kept apart and holding bits of mind as separate awarenesses? – For it is not so much “all one body We” as all one Mind We are.  And the harmony is wonderful. – You gave these names to them, establishing perception as you wished to have perception be. – In Your naming did You give a different, separate nature. – The nameless things were given names and thus reality was given them as well. – A simple example is the hand, an idea complete only as part of the Whole; yet You have named each finger – and each part of it – and done the same for the entire body, and what is the purpose but separation? For what is named is given meaning and will then be seen as meaningful, a cause of true effects with consequence inherent in itself.  And Wholeness goes unseen and lost to You.  Reality then does become unreal.

⁴ This is the way reality is made by partial vision, purposefully set against the given truth. Its enemy is wholeness. It conceives of little things and looks upon them. And a lack of space, – How much do You like a Brother standing ‘too close’, in Your face?  Ever wondered why? – a sense of unity or vision which sees differently become the threats which it must overcome, conflict with, and deny.  Things must be just as the ego does decree they be, or there will be ‘hell to pay’.

⁵ Yet does this other vision still remain a natural direction for the mind to channel its perception. It is hard to teach the mind a thousand alien names and thousands more. Yet you believe this is what learning means-its one essential goal by which communication is achieved and concepts can be meaningfully shared.  Now do You understand the purpose of ‘school’ is simply to make sure all Dreamers do conform to all beliefs and rules the ego has set forth.

If You don’t learn them correctly, then You fail.  Yet who asks the question: Fail at what?  Not because of lack of intelligence but rather Your lack of conformation.

⁶ This is the sum of the inheritance the world bestows. And everyone who learns to think that it is so accepts the signs and symbols which assert the world is real. It is for this they stand. They leave no doubt that what is named is there. It can be seen, as is anticipated. What denies that it is true is but illusion, for it is the ultimate reality. To question it is madness; to accept its presence is the proof of sanity.  Yes it was quite a thing to say to two Phd’s.  Yet look at a world based on   ‘successful learning’ from books (filled with the world’s definitions) versus Reality which flows from eternal Love.  Who has better credentials: the One with the learning or the One who but does will to Love with all their heart and soul and might and mind?  You know My answer.

⁷ Such is the teaching of the world. It is a phase of learning everyone who comes must go through.  – So that S/He may but ‘properly’ fit in.  i.e. accept the rules and follow them.  And what is the basic ‘rule’ but that You are ‘only human’.   You know: ‘You’re not God. You’re not like Jesus.’  Well here is Jesus telling You You are!  You can eschew everything that You were taught except perhaps those kindnesses and good manners, which are “Do unto Others”. – But – more correctly: And – the sooner he perceives on what it rests, how questionable are its premises, how doubtful its results, the sooner does he question its effects. Learning which stops with what the world would teach stops short of meaning. In its proper place, it serves but as a starting point from which another kind of learning can begin, a new perception can be gained, and all the arbitrary names the world bestows can be withdrawn as they are raised to doubt.  While this may seem a bit overwhelming, trust Me, and I will lead You to a happiness You now can barely imagine.  None the less it’s Real!

⁸ Think not you made the world. Illusions, yes!   You’ve just hidden Reality with the ego’s overlay.  It cannot change what is but simply hides It.  Truth is quite unchanged by the ego’s deceptions, and waits patiently for You to discover It.

But – Let Us not negate the Truth with a ‘but’; this is important, – what is true in earth and Heaven is beyond your naming. When you call upon a brother, it is to his body that you make appeal. – Yet He is Consciousness, not body. – His true identity is hidden from you by what you believe he really is. His body makes response to what you call him, for his mind consents to take the name you give him as his own. – For He has the very same delusions! – And thus his unity is twice denied, for you perceive him separate from you, and he accepts this separate name as his.  And all of this is done by agreement with the rules that You are taught to follow.  These rules take the form of ‘human’ beliefs.  The Son of God is bound by none of them!

⁹ It would indeed be strange if you were asked to go beyond all symbols of the world, forgetting them forever; yet were asked to take a teaching function. You have need to use the symbols of the world a while. So that Your Brothers will understand You. But be you not deceived by them as well.  Other than that use, they are quite useless.

They do not stand for anything at all, and in your practicing, it is this thought that will release you from them. They become but means by which you can communicate in ways the world can understand, but which you recognize is not the unity where true communication can be found.  You can begin to understand true communication through Your inner Guidance.  And if You do not yet hear, then may You listen by reading here.  For each paragraph of Guidance that You read – and sometimes just a word! – helps You All to open up Your own most precious Holy Connection.  How I long for All of Us to again be in Communion!

¹⁰ Thus what you need are intervals each day in which the learning of the world becomes a transitory phase-a prison house from which you go into the sunlight and forget the darkness. Here you understand the Word, the Name which God has given you; the one identity which all things share; the one acknowledgment of what is true. And then step back to darkness, not because you think it real, but only to proclaim its unreality in terms which still have meaning in the world which darkness rules.  So I share with You as much as You will to hear Me speaking.  My preference is but every Holy Moment of the day!

¹¹ Use all the little names and symbols which delineate the world of darkness. Yet accept them not as your reality.  Be always in a state of curiosity, wondering with interest just what is really here.

The Holy Spirit uses all of them, but He does not forget creation has one Name, one Meaning, and a single Source Which unifies all things within Itself. Use all the names the world bestows on them but for convenience, yet do not forget they share the Name of God along with you.  Don’t think that Be-ing Awake will be just too much for You, too different.  Only the ego really fears it.  For You it will be such a joyous adventure, You won’t ever want to dream again!  You’ll see!

¹² God has no name. – How  can You name the Source of Everything, as if It were somehow separate from the Presentation of the Universe?  Is there a name for the place of the Sun where the Rays do have their origin when all things always are?  The Rays are the Sun. All that can be named is but Its Nature. – And yet His Name becomes the final lesson that all things are one, and at this lesson does all learning end. All names are unified; all space is filled with truth’s reflection. – The Universe is filled with Truth’s Presence. – Every gap is closed and separation healed. The Name of God is the inheritance He gave to those who chose the teaching of the world to take the place of Heaven  – to show them that They were not forsaken. [[ In our practicing, our purpose is to let our minds accept what He has given as the answer to the pitiful inheritance you made as fitting tribute to the Son He loves.  “Pitiful” is quite an understatement.  The world You think You made is nothing but a awful nightmare with no way that You know to awaken.  Because You made Me “special”, You don’t think My teaching practical.  And yet it is.  So pay attention!

¹³ No one can fail who seeks the meaning of the Name of God. – For to know the Name of God is to know Your own True Nature! – Experience must come to supplement the Word. But first you must accept one Name for all reality, and realize the many names you gave its aspects have distorted what you see but have not interfered with truth at all. One Name we bring into our practicing. One Name we use to unify our sight.

¹⁴ And though we use a different name for each awareness of an aspect of God’s Son, we understand that they have but one Name, Which He has given them. It is this Name we use in practicing. And through Its use, all foolish separations disappear which kept us blind. And we are given strength to see beyond them. Now our sight is blessed with blessings we can give as we receive.  All Brothers and Sisters are but Holy, for God is both Source and Identity.

¹⁵ Father, our Name is Yours. In It we are united with all living things and You Who are their one Creator. What we made and call by many different names is but a shadow we have tried to cast across Your own reality. And we are glad and thankful we were wrong. All our mistakes we give to You, that we may be absolved of all effects our errors seemed to have. And we accept the truth You give in place of every one of them. Your Name is our salvation and escape from what we made. Your Name unites us in the oneness which is our inheritance and peace. Amen.

What are You saying here but like the Prodigal: Father I am sorry.  And like the loving Father in My parable,₁ whose joy outshone apologies, God’s Joy at Your return is more than sufficient!

INTRODUCTION to Lessons 181 – 200

^I181:1 Our next few lessons make a special point of firming up your willingness to make your weak commitment strong, your scattered goals blend into one intent. – All commitment does start with this one thing: just the little willingness to do it, whatever it takes.  So even if You do slip and fall, You get right up again. – You are not asked for total dedication all the time, as yet. But you are asked to practice now in order to attain the sense of peace such unified commitment will bestow, if only intermittently. It is experiencing this which makes it sure that you will give your total willingness to following the way the course sets forth.  How did He segue from the little willingness to total?!  (He is laughing hard!)  Only the ego would ask that question!  By now, don’t You think that You should know Me!  Give Me an inch of good, and I’ll give You back a mile of it.  Give Me a drop of Love, and I’ll return to You an ocean.

With what are We dealing but the Divine Qualities of God.  Life, Truth and Love.  Spirit, Soul and Mind.  Holy Divine Principle, Its Joy and Peace.  How precious are the attributes of God.  They are Your treasure.  And where Your treasure is, there is Your Love.

² Our lessons now are geared specifically to widening horizons – by loosening the ego’s stranglehold that it has on You – and direct approaches to the special blocks which keep your vision narrow and too limited to let you see the value of our goal.  What has it been that has severely narrowed Your horizons?

Well, what else but sir and lady ego?

We are attempting now to lift these blocks, however briefly. Words alone can not convey the sense of liberation which their lifting brings. – Yes, that day that Helen had, recounted in “Absence From Felicity”₁ is a perfect example.  Every day – and every moment can and will be like that! – But the experience of freedom and of peace that comes as you give up your tight control of what you see speaks for itself. Your motivation will be so intensified that words become of little consequence. You will be sure of what you want and what is valueless.  The ego will attempt to deter Your progress, tell You that You can’t sustain such an experience.  And yet the ego is always lying.  Do not believe it.  Tell it to shut up, and really mean it!

³ And so we start our journey beyond words by concentrating first on what impedes our progress still. Experience of what exists beyond defensiveness remains beyond achievement while it is denied. It may be there, but you cannot accept its presence.  For You are quite defended against It.  And what does live in the Silence but experience of perfect Love and safety. So we now attempt to go past all defenses for a little while each day. No more than this is asked because no more than this is needed. It will be enough to guarantee the rest will come.  One Holy Moment is but a promise of All which await Your invitation!
