To give and to receive are one in truth.

For You and I and All of Us are One.  So all that’s ever going on is giving and receiving.  And We must be sure that when We give, We give the Gift of Love, if We Love Our Others, and if We would gladly receive It.

For the ego’s gifts are both selfish and painful, so if We ‘gift’ selfishness and pain, then will We receive it.  For good or evil, what We do to a Brother does affect Us as well.

Today We speak of God’s Gifts of Love.

¹ Vision depends upon today’s idea.

Do We see all things as an ego or as the Son of God?  What’s the lens through which We view Our Brothers?

The light is in it, for it reconciles all seeming opposites. – What is the Light, but the Light of Truth, illuminating this painful, ugly dream. – And what is light except the resolution, born of peace, of all your conflicts and mistaken thoughts into one concept which is wholly true? – For the Light does show forth harmony by illuminating earth’s dark and angry lack of consciousness.  For Light does disappear every shadow. Harmony does rule. – Even that one will disappear because the Thought behind it will appear instead, to take its place. And now we are at peace forever, for the dream is over now.

Why no need for harmony?  Because discord is unknown to Reality.  Truth is  perfect order.

² True light which makes true vision possible is not the light the body’s eyes behold.

In the dream You do but ‘see’ with the eyes that do see for the ego; i.e. its point of view.  These Lessons are to Guide You to see again as God, as eyes of Love.

It is consciousness that does determine vision, what You see and how You see it.

Since the ego mindset seemed to begin with a view apart from God, ‘vision’ was skewed from the ‘beginning’ of what never happened.  So how reliable could what You think You see be?

The willingness to ask the Holy Spirit what is really going on will thus correct Your mind as well as Your vision.

It is a state of mind which has become so unified that darkness cannot be perceived at all. And thus what is the same is seen as one, while what is not the same remains unnoticed, for it is not there.

What do I mean by ‘unified’ but seeing as One with God, His View once again becomes Your Vision.  It is the only View there is, as each Son of God does give His aspect of Infinite Perfection.  You do not see alone but as an essential part of the whole Oneness of God.

Our aspects Infinite keep the Whole complete.  You are needed by God and All the Universe: Each One is very crucial to the Whole of God.  And each One is You!  Dear belovèd Son of God, You are so very important.

This is why the private view has been devastating to You.

³ This is the light – of Our shared Vision – which shows no opposites, and vision, being healed, has power to heal. This is the light that brings your peace of mind to other minds, to share it and be glad that they are one with you and with themselves. This is the light which heals because it brings single perception, based upon one frame of reference from which one meaning comes.

The ego tells You that You are ‘special’, meaning by this ‘different’.  This is the basis of separation. The ego has mistaken ‘different’ for unique, and therein is found the problem.  Uniqueness flows from a common Source, and that Source is Love, is God.

Think You that God created ‘races’ to be at odds with and ‘different’ from One another?  There is but ONE SON OF GOD.  The Uniqueness of the Son of God is not dependent on hair or skin colour.  And God Loves All Sons equally.  No One is favored over Another.  Each One is very precious.

⁴ Here are both giving and receiving seen as different aspects of one Thought Whose truth does not depend on which is seen as first, nor which appears to be in second place. Here it is understood that both occur together, that the Thought remain complete.

Can You see this as a dance, where You do not count the steps forward or back, but rather move in natural and glorious harmony with the music?  Such is giving and receiving.  Such is Heaven’s communication and Its interaction.

And in this understanding is the base on which all opposites are reconciled because they are perceived from the same frame of reference which unifies this Thought.

That frame of reference is Harmony.

⁵ One thought, completely unified, will serve to unify all thought. – One marcher out of step, coming back into line, can bring all Others back. – This is the same as saying one correction will suffice for all correction or that to forgive one brother wholly is enough to bring salvation to all minds. For these are but some special cases of one law which holds for every kind of learning if it be directed by the One Who knows the truth.

This is the same as saying that You cannot solve the problem from the level of the problem, because that never comes to terms with the fact that there is no problem.  For the ‘level of the problem’ is the level of problems!  You seem to solve one, only to have another one appear.

Reality does not include problems.

⁶ To learn that giving and receiving are the same has special usefulness because it can be tried so easily and seen as true. And when this special case has proved it always works in every circumstance where it is tried, the thought behind it can be generalized to other areas of doubt and double vision. And from there it will extend and finally arrive at the one Thought Which underlies them all.

We are but One with Each of Our Others.  Whether male or female, man or moose, star or galaxy.  What matters above all is the Holiness of Our connection.

⁷ Today we practice with the special case of giving and receiving. We will use this simple L e s s o n  in the obvious because it has results we cannot miss. To give is to receive. Today we will attempt to offer peace to everyone and see how quickly peace returns to us. Light is tranquility, and in that peace is vision given us and we can see.

⁸ So we begin the practice periods with the instruction for today and say:

⁹ To give and to receive are one in truth.
I will receive what I am giving now.

¹⁰ Then close your eyes, and for five minutes think of what you would hold out to everyone to have it yours. You might, for instance, say:

¹¹ To everyone I offer quietness.
To everyone I offer peace of mind.
To everyone I offer gentleness.

¹² Say each one slowly, and then pause a while, expecting to receive the gift you gave, and it will come to you in the amount in which you gave it.  For You are included in the Every One to whom You gave! Such is the Law of Reciprocity. – You will find you have exact return, for this is what you asked. It might be helpful, too, to think of one to whom to give your gifts. He represents the others, and through him you give to all.

If He is One who has been hard to forgive, and hard to gift, so much the better.

¹³ Our very simple lesson for today will teach you much. Effect and cause will be far better understood from this time on, and we will make much faster progress now. Think of the exercises for today as quick advances in your learning, made still faster and more sure each time you say:

¹⁴ To give and to receive are one in truth.

This statement is the Truth that does negate the separation.
