LESSON NINETY-SIX

L e s s o n  96

Salvation comes from my One Self.

What is salvation Father?  It must be undoing the seeming rupture that I caused between Us by insisting on My own way.

Yet the separation has only been one-sided, existing solely in the specious sense of mind I share with all such willful Brothers such as I.

And yet here is Your devoted Brother telling every Prodigal that Our connection with You is as present as it was before this foolish game.

I had forgotten just what Love is really like.  Thank You for sending Us this faithful Brother to shepherd Us so gently Home with His true teaching.

What seems most natural to God and the Holy Spirit is quite impossible and most confusing to the ego.  Just what is “One Self”?  Is it Mine, and do We All have a “One Self”?

The answer is very simple.  There is just One Self, and what It is is the Son of God.  And We share that Self – that Sonship – with All of Creation/Revelation.  Each Idea is an unique and beautiful expression of that Self while still Be-ing part of the Whole.  Listen carefully:

¹ Although you are One Self, What good news this is as it undoes Your belief in the supposed reality of sin, a concept absolutely impossible to Heaven, or to You, the sinless Son of God Himself, Herself. (Gender depends upon Your point of view.)

And yet you experience yourself as two-as both good and evil, loving and hating, mind and body.  And reinforce this impossible experience by creating things You call emotions that justify such painful behavior.  It does not make it True of You.  And as We look at this Together, I will be reminding You of just how Good You really are.  The ego does not like those words for it delights in hating that takes form in criticizing and comparison and even violence as it justifies its ugly face.  I feel You cringe at that, and yet its face is not Yours!  Here is the healthy use of dissociation!  For as We look at the impudent and lawless ego Together, You will soon see that this thing could not be You!  The You of God is Good and True, the Presence of Love Itself.
So You see, I am reintroducing You to You.

This sense of being split into opposites induces feelings of acute and constant conflict and leads to frantic attempts to reconcile the contradictory aspects of this self-perception.  Sounds like the dream state, doesn’t it, in which You’ve been thinking there’s the culprit once again.  It has only been a nightmare that’s gone on for way too long.  Behind every word and concept that I teach, hear these words of promise:

You can wake up Now Belovèd One.
Allow the Love to permeate the dream.

Do this and Your problems all are over.  Yet instead You have preferred the struggle.

You have sought many such solutions, and none of them has worked. The opposites you see in you will never be compatible. But one exists.  You have been afraid that only the evil side was real.  And now You’re hearing this is not so and never has been true of You, no matter what part You’ve played within the dream.  Even if You’ve thought that You were Judas.

² The fact that truth and illusion cannot be reconciled, no matter how you try, what means you use, and where you see the problem, must be accepted if you would be saved.  I cannot be both Good and evil.  The two cannot co-exist for only Good is Real.

This is the end of guilt, for can You have sinned by doing something You could have never done?  The answer is obvious.

Choose for Truth, and freedom comes.  Choosing error has brought You only slavery to a brutal ruler.  For make no mistake: although the ego can ingratiate, it is a loveless, ugly thing, the antithesis of Who and What You really are.

– You really are the Son of God, despite ad nauseum attempts to be an ego; leading ever deeper into more and more confliction. –

Until you have accepted this, you will attempt endless lists of goals you cannot reach; – all those broken New Year’s resolutions –a senseless series of expenditures of time and effort, hopefulness and doubt, each one as futile as the one before and failing as the next one surely will.  Surely does sound like the human experience, doesn’t it?

Yet the ego’s hope to make the separation happy springs eternal.  Its hope cannot succeed for it would kill off God completely.  Its desires are all self-centered, while God is Love Itself. (Would You not be that?)

³ Problems that have no meaning cannot be resolved within the framework they are set. Two selves in conflict could not be resolved, and good and evil have no meeting place. The self you made can never be your Self, nor can your Self be split in two and still be what it is and must forever be.

Now do You plainly see why I say to All of You so very often: Brother, Sister, choose again.

The whole experience of separation is insane and fruitless, while happiness and peace stand right at hand awaiting Your Awakening.

⁴ A mind and body cannot both exist.  Not in the way that You perceive them.  For You see body as the determiner of life, while mind has been compressed from Infinity to be trapped within the small part of body allotted as its home.  What insanity!  For Mind is God and is the Eternal Context where Infinite Creation joys!

The ego has got everything backwards, upside-down, and inside-out.  No wonder there is no peace, nor true happiness within the dream.

There is One Mind and Its Embodiment: God and His Presence which We have called Creation or Revelation.

There are no “ifs”, ands, or buts about it.  You are Spirit now and always will be.

And no need to worry, for You will not lose Your Identity, far from it.  For what You are when You are not a body is just wonderful.

Make no attempt to reconcile the two, for one denies the other can be real. If you are physical, your mind is gone from your self-concept, – for brain is not mind – for it has no place in which it could be really part of you. If you are Spirit, then the body – made of matter, determining Your abilities and limits is, and – must be meaningless to your reality.

⁵ Spirit makes use of mind as means to find its Self-expression. – When You cease to use Your body for communication, then does Mind come into play.  Touching mind to mind is great, far more wonderful than ever could be bodies.- And the mind which serves the Spirit is at peace and filled with joy.  Here it is: the reason for this mind-training flowing straight from Love and Intelligence: The mind which serves Spirit  and not imaginary matter, is at Peace and filled with Joy.  You could feel Yourself relax as Peace came with these words.

Let’s sit quietly and let this idea take root, sprout, and grow.  What happiness it promises, what peace.  And I assure You that the happiness of Spirit is very interesting.  Dreaming is boring.

Its power comes from Spirit, and it is fulfilling happily its function here.  Feel these words filling You with Joy, for this Function of Happiness is Yours!  It waits expectantly for Your joyous acceptance, Your return to Happiness and Love.

I know this is not a new idea for You, that All is Consciousness, yet now are You glimpsing it as a present – and a very exciting – possibility!  A whole new way of experiencing.

Yet mind can also see itself divorced from Spirit and perceive itself within a body it confuses with itself.

This is the ego’s point of view, and it’s very limiting.

Without its function then, it has no peace, and happiness is alien to its thoughts.  Would You choose this when Happiness waits right at hand for You?  Have You not had enough of suffering?  The choice is Yours: Happiness or misery? Sanity or insanity.  Which do You choose?

Take My hand.  Feel My Love as the ego cautions You to not be rash!  As always, You choose between its strident or beguiling voice and the Voice for Love I bring You.

As You read the words below, ask Yourself: Would I be this?

Such is the ego’s dream.  I know You would not be this if You heard Me come to You and say: Brother, Sister, choose again.  This time choose for God, and not for the ego.

For then You choose for Life instead of death, happiness instead of sorrow, and peace instead of anxiety.  Choose again.

⁶ Yet mind apart from Spirit cannot think.

For all Names for God must work together.  So a mind that thinks that it is matter has no common meeting ground with Spirit.  Therefore, it has lost its proper Function.  And when it thinks, thoughts are not of the Love of God, but of the so-called ‘love’ of self with a little s.  And this lack of Love does engender fear.

It has denied its Source of strength and sees itself as helpless, limited, and weak. Dissociated from its function now, it thinks it is alone and separate, attacked by armies massed against itself and hiding in the body’s frail support. – For separated from Reality it seeks a fortress of defense, which it has decided is the body, densified by its ‘new’ function.  It was not made to protect, but to identify You. Now must it reconcile unlike with like, for this is what it thinks that it is for.

And this is why the body is so dense and dark, when what it really is is Light.  For Light would seem to offer no protection.

This shows the ego’s irrationality, for even in the dream, You cannot harm a beam of Light.

⁷ Waste no more time on this.  You and Your sleeping Brothers have suffered long enough.  Will You keep putting off happiness?  What could be Your reason?  Does this sound like fun?

Who can resolve the senseless conflicts which a dream presents? Is not the solution to any problem in a dream to just wake up?  That’s pretty obvious, yet not to the ego.  For the ego thrives on overcoming problems and would be lost without them. What could the resolution mean in truth? What purpose could it serve? What is it for?

Salvation cannot make illusions real and solve a problem that does not exist. Perhaps you hope it can.  For You have a strange attraction to the lure of dreaming, and so many times have found Yourself trapped by still another lifetime not knowing that a change of mind could free You from the physicality and suffering that seems so real.  It’s not.

Yet would you have God’s plan for the release of His dear Son bring pain to him and fail to set him free? 

Of course You wouldn’t, yet clinging to the dream and acting like a selfish ego – i.e. concerned first and foremost with number one – is what You do, dream after dream.

“Would You be this?”  For Christ is here and comes to You with His promise of Your freedom.  Won’t You accept it?

Stop for a moment and think about the Father-Mother’s eternal Love for You, the Son of God.  For that is What You are.  It cannot be said too often.  You are the Son of God, no matter how long You dream.

⁸ Your Self retains its thoughts, and they remain within your mind and in the Mind of God.  

What are Your thoughts but Knowing of the Reality of God.

All You really are is safe and whole, kept within Our Love.

And It is as close as Consciousness.  As You stop thinking and start Listening, You will feel the Love flood through You, like a dammed up river finally set free from artificiality to flow its natural course.

The Holy Spirit holds salvation in your mind and offers it the way to peace.  And Peace is really natural to You, not this strife and stress.  Allow the calmness that Peace brings to flow as Your sense of consciousness.

Life, Truth and Love are what You are, and their expression brings You freedom from the dream.

Salvation is a thought you share with God, because His Voice accepted it for you and answered in your name that it was done.

Because minds are joined, I’m able to do this for All of You.  It is My pleasure.

This is how important You are to God.

Thus is salvation kept among the thoughts your Self holds dear and cherishes for you. 

We All share One Self, also known to You as Holy Spirit.  And We extend Ourselves as Love to You.

You have forgotten what it feels like to be cherished by God, by All Creation.  Let this Love reveal Itself to You.

⁹ We will attempt today to find this thought, whose presence in your mind is guaranteed by Him Who speaks to you from your One Self.  Let Us approach this opportunity Together, with expectant Joy!

What more guarantee do You need than God is Love?  There need not be any more for Love is trustworthy.

Our hourly five minute practicing will be a search for Him within your mind. This will be easy with a little willingness to hear.  For that is all it takes. Salvation comes from this One Self through Him Who is the bridge between your mind and it.  And You may also search for Her if that feels more natural and comfortable for You.  Yet both He and She must sometime remember that He and She are really We, and ultimately I.

I bring Divinity to remembrance.  You know the words already.  They do remind You of God’s Reality for You.

¹⁰ Wait patiently, and let Him speak to you about your Self, and what your mind can do, restored to it and free to serve its will.  So whether You hear His Voice or Hers, It is still the One Self.

Words of Love, lyrics to the Forgotten Song, reminding You of what’s it’s like to Love just Every One and be Loved by them.

You’ve spent a million dreams searching for love quite fruitlessly, and all the while You have been sleeping, Love has tenderly watched over You, kissed You gently when the nightmares had You screaming, reassured You silently that You are loved and safe forever.

¹¹ Begin by saying this:

¹² Salvation comes from my One Self. Its thoughts are mine to use. For It is What I Really Am that speaks to Me of Me, And this is Truth for All My Brothers and My Sisters too.

¹³ Then seek its thoughts, and claim them as your own.

¹⁴ These are your own real thoughts you have denied, and let your mind go wandering in a world of dreams, to find illusions in their place. Here are your thoughts, the only ones you have. Salvation is among them; find it there.

Is not the exchange of error for Truth, hate for Love, death for Life, Your salvation?

¹⁵ If you succeed, – when You succeed, for Your success is guaranteed by God! – the thoughts that come to you will tell you you are saved and that your mind has found the function that it sought to lose. Of course, You will succeed, for You are the Holy Son of God.

Your Self will welcome it and give it peace. 

And Your experience of peace so far is small compared to the serene Joy awaiting Your acceptance of True Peace, the Peace of God the Bible says passes all understanding.

Restored in strength, it will again flow out from Spirit to the Spirit in all things created by the Spirit as Itself.  What joy it is to leave the heaviness of physicality to find that Real Life is Spirit, and not the ego lie that cleverly confined Spirit as reached only after death.  You are being freed from this pernicious, false belief.

Spirit is what You are, and what You always were, and what You will always Be!  And Spirit is a synonym for Life.  Joyous Life!

Spirit substances All Reality.  You are not ‘matter’.

Your mind will bless all things. Confusion done, you are restored, for you have found your Self.

No more are You fragmented.  Wholeness and Holiness are You.

¹⁶ Your Self knows that you cannot fail today. Perhaps your mind remains uncertain yet a little while. Be not dismayed by this.

The joy your Self experiences It will save for you, and it will yet be yours in full awareness.

Every time you spend five minutes of the hour seeking Him Who joins your mind and Self, you offer Him another treasure to be kept for you.

And every gift given both by You and to You blesses all Your Brothers.

¹⁷ Each time today you tell your frantic mind salvation comes from your One Self, you lay another treasure in your growing store.  You will feel the Peace and Happiness.

And all of it is given everyone who asks for it and will accept the gift. Think, then, how much is given unto you to give this day, that it be given you!  Feel Our Love for You.

Remember My words: Freely You have received, freely give.

Give indiscriminately to All Your Brothers.
