LESSON NINETY-THREE

L e s s o n  93

Light and joy and peace abide in me.

Light and joy and peace abide as Me.  I am – right here, right now – their living Presence.

¹ You think you are the home of evil, darkness, and sin.  Almost the devil incarnate, listening to Your thinking. You think if anyone could see the truth about you he would be repelled, recoiling from you as if from a poisonous snake. You think if what is true about you were revealed to you, you would be struck with horror so intense that you would rush to death by your own hand, living on after seeing this being impossible.  So does the ego-speak infiltrate Your mind to block Your pure Holiness from You.

² These are beliefs so firmly fixed that it is difficult to help you see that they are based on nothing. That you have made mistakes is obvious. They come from Your guilt re separation. That you have sought salvation in strange ways-have been deceived, deceiving, and afraid of foolish fantasies and savage dreams and have bowed down to idols made of dust-all this is true by what you now believe.  You believe Your dreams are reality.  They surely aren’t. So what have You accomplished but nothing.  Dreams are never real.

³ Today we question this, not from the point of view of what you think, but from a very different reference point from which such idle thoughts are meaningless. These thoughts are not according to God’s Will. What would God have You know?  Surely not idle, foolish dreams and insane fantasies! These weird beliefs He does not share with you.  When He has already given to You the Kingdom, what would be the point of such egregious nonsense!  This is enough – much more than enough – to prove that they are wrong, but you do not perceive that this is so.  So immersed in the crazy dream are You, You’re not able to sift fact from fiction!  This is why I’m here in the dream with You.

⁴ Why would you not be overjoyed to be assured that all the evil that you think you did was never done, that all your “sins” are nothing, that you are as pure and holy as you were created, and that light and joy and peace abide in you?  All that holds You in the dream is Your attachment to it: ‘Can’t leave now; gotta see how this one comes out!  One would think that You’re at Shea Stadium, twenty-three innings with the Giants and the Mets: who’s gonna win this game tonight!₁  Only You are not a Giant fan, You are an ego fan!  Don’t worry though, it doesn’t matter for: Your image of yourself cannot withstand the Will of God. You think that this is death, but it is life. You think you are destroyed, but you are saved.  God knows not of so-called ‘death’; it’s nothing but purely an ego machination.

⁵ The self you made is not the Son of God. Well, then, what is it?  Nothing but an idle thought, meaningless till You got stuck in it. And like a broken record, You still seem stuck. You aren’t. Why not?  Because You are the Son of God, no matter what! You can always make a different choice.  You can always choose again. Therefore, this self does not exist at all. For You are dreaming!  And anything it seems to do and think means nothing. It is neither bad nor good. It is unreal and nothing more than that. It does not battle with the Son of God. It does not hurt him nor attack his peace. It has not changed creation nor reduced eternal sinlessness to sin and love to hate. What power can this self you made possess when it would contradict the Will of God?  All it does is make for an unpleasant dream, which One would think would facilitate Your Awakening.  Yet screams the ego: Anything but that!

For like the water on the western wicked witch, Awakening does melt all ego dreams to nothing.  And thank God for that!

⁶ Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God.  Has there ever been a better guarantee than this one?  Or one more comforting?  This one is the best.  Son of God, You are a Holy Thing most beautiful; and You are so very good. What You think You’ve done is but a nightmare! A nightmare from which You can awaken. Over and over this must be repeated until it is accepted. It is true. Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God.  Words so beautiful, so full with God’s Love.  Nothing can touch it nor can change what God created as eternal.  That’s You, Son of God!  Stop all this dreaming; re-embrace Your Self! The self you made, evil and full of sin, is meaningless.  Why would You want it; it’s useless.  The Real You of God is so amazing!! Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God, and light and joy and peace abide in you.  Really They do abide as You.  Note the distinction, for there is no You but the Son of God.  No ‘human’ with some light and joy and peace inside of You.  You are the Living Presence of Reality; of Light and Joy and Peace. 

⁷ Salvation requires the acceptance of but one thought-you are as God created you, not what you made of yourself.  Let the wondrous blessing of this thought sink deep into Your mind. You have not messed up Yourself forever.  You have not harmed Yourself at all, for the Son of God – the Real You, which has not been changed – remains untouched in all Its glory! Whatever evil you may think you did, you are as God created you. Whatever mistakes you made, the truth about you is unchanged. Creation is eternal and unalterable. Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God.  Don’t You Love those words: Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God! Could You ask for more!  Look how Loved You are!  You are and will forever be exactly as you were created. Light and joy and peace abide in you because God put them there.  You can take it further in Your understanding:  You can’t lose light and joy and peace because They ae Your very own substance, as the Son of God.  They are God’s Substance, and You are His Living, Loving Presence.

⁸ In our longer exercise periods today, which would be most profitable if done for the first five minutes of every waking hour, we will begin by stating the truth about our creation:

⁹ Light and joy and peace abide in me.  They are My Substance!
My sinlessness is guaranteed by God.  For I am but One with God forever.  There is not – nor can there ever be – any separation.

¹⁰ Then put away your foolish self-images and spend the rest of the practice period in trying to experience what God has given you in place of what you have decreed for yourself.  What have I given to Myself but a fragile sense of so-called ‘life’, dependent on so many varied things like air, water, food and shelter, to sustain the fragile body that I think I am.  How preposterous is this!  For I am as eternal and invincible as God is.  Now and forever.

If I understood Myself, I would not sin, sicken or die.  Just as My God is, I am, forever.

¹¹ You are what God created or what you made.  You know deep in Your mind which One it is.  Yet have You preferred to play a pointless game, which always turns sour!  Why not give it up?  Say “Uncle!” and capitulate to Life!  One Self is true; the other is not there.  Which One would You be? You know it’s Your choice.  Why not choose again, this time choosing Life.Try to experience the unity of your One Self. Try to appreciate its holiness and the love from which it was created. Try not to interfere with the Self which God created as you by hiding its majesty behind the tiny idols of evil and sinfulness you have made to replace it.  The best was to do this is to stop thinking!  Now rest in the gentle quiet. Then are You attentive to Reality.  Let it come into its own. Here you are. This is you. And light and joy and peace abide in you because this is so.  They gladly abide as what You really are; just allow them.

¹² You may not be willing or even able to use the first five minutes of each hour for these exercises. Try, however, to do so when you can. At least remember to repeat these thoughts each hour:

¹³ Light and joy and peace abide in me.  They really are You!  This cannot be emphasized enough, that all of You is God.
My sinlessness is guaranteed by God.  Of course, this is so; just like God, We All are pure and perfect.

¹⁴ Then try to devote at least a minute or so to closing your eyes and realizing that this is a statement of the truth about you.  Hear God’s gentle Voice and feels God’s gentle Love as Our Source says to You: Belovèd! Feel the Love for You.  Feel the Love as You.

¹⁵ If a situation arises that seems to be disturbing, quickly dispel the illusion of fear by repeating these thoughts again. Should you be tempted to become angry with someone, tell him silently:

¹⁶ Light and joy and peace abide in you.
Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God.  After all, S/He is Your dearest Brother!  You might add those words directly: You are My dearest Brother!

¹⁷ You can do much for the world’s salvation today. The healing of the world depends on every One of You. You can do much today to bring you closer to the part in salvation which God has assigned to you.  Your Brothers need You. And you can do much today to bring the conviction to your mind that the idea for the day is true indeed.  For Your true embodiment is but Love.  And Love is Light and joy and Peace, as You.

Love is the Liberator from the dream.
