LESSON EIGHTY-EIGHT

REVIEW II

¹ We are now ready for another review. We will begin where our last review left off and cover two ideas each day. The earlier part of each day will be devoted to one of these ideas, and the latter part of the day to the other. We will have one longer exercise period and frequent shorter ones in which we practice each of them.

² The longer practice periods will follow this general form: take about 15 minutes for each of them, and begin by thinking about the idea and the comments which are included in the assignments. Devote about three or four minutes to reading them over slowly, several times if you wish, and then close your eyes and listen.

While the ideas – of themselves – are quite important, the crucial part is the Listening, Our Communion.

Repeat the first phase if you find your mind wandering, but try to spend the major part of the practice period listening quietly but attentively.

³ There is a message waiting for you. Be confident that you will receive it. Remember that it belongs to you and that you want it. Do not allow your intent to waver in the face of distracting thoughts. – The ego mindset is quite good at distraction. – Realize that, whatever form they take, they have no meaning and no power. – Each and every thought coming from the ego mindset is meaningless, for it comes from belief in a ‘reality’ that is non-existent. – Replace them with your determination to succeed. Do not forget that your will has power over all fantasies and dreams. – The choice is always Yours.  Choose once again until Your choice is always God and Love. – Trust it to see you through and carry you beyond them all.

⁴ Regard these practice periods as dedications to the way, the truth, and the life. Refuse to be side-tracked into detours, illusions, and thoughts of death. You are dedicated to salvation. Be determined each day not to leave your function unfulfilled.

What else could You be doing that is as important as this is?  No other endeavor has worth even close to this one.

⁵ Reaffirm your determination in the shorter practice periods as well, using the original form of the idea for general application and a more specific form when needed. Some specific forms will be included in the comments. These, however, are merely suggestions. It is not the particular words you use that matter.

It is Your heart’s desire and Your diligence that matter.  Desire is prayer.

L e s s o n  88

¹ Today we will review these ideas:

[75] The light has come.  It never went away.  I see now I was blocking It with My darkened thinking.  Now is consciousness illuminating.  What a joy this is!

² In choosing salvation rather than attack, I merely choose to recognize what is already here.  And what is always here at hand – waiting for the choosing – but God, the Life, the Truth and Love that I have been refusing, by My continued insistence on dreaming! Salvation is a decision made already. Why not just Awaken?  Dreaming’s gotten really tiresome! It’s even boring. Attack and grievances are not there to choose.  They’re figments of My imaginations. And I am but pretending that they’re ‘real’ to give them substance.  Now I’m stuck with dense thinking and dense body, because I began to believe My imagination! “It must be real because I think it!” So goes My reasoning. That is why I always choose between truth and illusion, between what is there and what is not. The light has come. What naturally does wake a Dreamer from a dream but Light.  This Light I must choose.  I can but choose the light, for it has no alternative. It has replaced the darkness, and the dark is gone.  Yet do I relentlessly shut My eyes and persist in dreaming, or I would already be Awake.

Indeed dear Sisters and dear Brothers, You do do this.  Yet You do not need to!  You can choose again.  Would You not again Be Light and be happy?

Do You really prefer to live a life of quiet desperation, expecting some little pills to be Your salvation?  Or what ever else You might believe to be Your ‘saviour’.  They all must fail You.

³ These would prove useful forms for specific applications of this idea:

⁴ This cannot show me darkness, for the light has come. Even to My tightly shut, sleeping eyes, to My skewed vision.  It is so bright and beautiful, I hide from It no longer!
The light in you is all that I would see, [name].  When My eyes are open, Light as You is all that I can see.
I would see in this only what is there.  And all that I can see is Perfection.

 

[76] I am under no laws but God’s.

No-One is.  We may choose to bow down to the ego, yet can We always un-choose it!  For its so-called ‘laws’ are evil, while the Laws of God are but supremely Good.

Shall We choose the Laws of Love or the spurious so-called ‘laws’ of the hateful ego?  Let Us say with Joshua: “-as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”₁  And then let’s do it!  Who else?  Would You serve false ‘gods’?  Has it profited You?  You know it hasn’t!   

⁵ Here is the perfect statement of my freedom.  My declaration of independence from all sickness, sin and death. God is My only sovereign. The body rules not over Me; for God rules over it, and keeps it perfectly. Ditto for My mind; as I allow Myself to become aware again of God. I am under no laws but God’s. I am constantly tempted to make up other laws and give them power over me.  Tempted by what?  Tempted by the ego claiming to be Me. I suffer only because of my belief in them.  – ego’s specious ‘laws’ – They have no real effect on me at all.  I can – at any time – claim My freedom. I am perfectly free of the effects of all laws save God’s. And His are the laws of freedom.  For only I have enslaved Myself, and I can always choose again. … Like right now!

⁶ For specific forms in applying this idea, these would be useful:

⁷ My perception of this shows me I believe in laws which do not exist.
I see only the laws of God at work in this.
Let me allow God’s laws to work in this and not my own.
