LESSON EIGHTY-SIX

REVIEW II

¹ We are now ready for another review. We will begin where our last review left off and cover two ideas each day. The earlier part of each day will be devoted to one of these ideas, and the latter part of the day to the other. We will have one longer exercise period and frequent shorter ones in which we practice each of them.

² The longer practice periods will follow this general form: take about 15 minutes for each of them, and begin by thinking about the idea and the comments which are included in the assignments. Devote about three or four minutes to reading them over slowly, several times if you wish, and then close your eyes and listen.

While the ideas – of themselves – are quite important, the crucial part is the Listening, Our Communion.

Repeat the first phase if you find your mind wandering, but try to spend the major part of the practice period listening quietly but attentively.

³ There is a message waiting for you. Be confident that you will receive it. Remember that it belongs to you and that you want it. Do not allow your intent to waver in the face of distracting thoughts. – The ego mindset is quite good at distraction. – Realize that, whatever form they take, they have no meaning and no power. – Each and every thought coming from the ego mindset is meaningless, for it comes from belief in a ‘reality’ that is non-existent. – Replace them with your determination to succeed. Do not forget that your will has power over all fantasies and dreams. – The choice is always Yours.  Choose once again until Your choice is always God and Love. – Trust it to see you through and carry you beyond them all.

⁴ Regard these practice periods as dedications to the way, the truth, and the life. Refuse to be side-tracked into detours, illusions, and thoughts of death. You are dedicated to salvation. Be determined each day not to leave your function unfulfilled.

What else could You be doing that is as important as this is?  No other endeavor has worth even close to this one.

⁵ Reaffirm your determination in the shorter practice periods as well, using the original form of the idea for general application and a more specific form when needed. Some specific forms will be included in the comments. These, however, are merely suggestions. It is not the particular words you use that matter.

It is Your heart’s desire and Your diligence that matter.  Desire is prayer.

¹ These ideas are for review today:

[71] Only God’s plan for salvation will work.

Do I really think I could come up with a better plan listening to the ego?  I must or I wouldn’t need salvation.

² It is senseless for me to search wildly about for salvation.  This is the ego’s motto: Seek and do not find. Yet I would not be an ego. The old ways don’t work: I have seen it in many people and in many things, but when I reached for it, it was not there. I was mistaken about where it is. I was mistaken about what it is. I will undertake no more idle seeking.  To do things on One’s own is inviting abysmal failure. And this is why ‘dying’ was invented.  Dreams turn too sour.  Dying brings the chance at a ‘better’ dream.  Right.  “Hope springs eternal” another Dreamer concept, keeping within the dream. “Hope” and “eternal” come with Awakening. For real hope is the certainty of a wonderful here and now eternity! Only God’s plan for salvation will work. And I will rejoice because His plan can never fail.  Father, Brother, Holy Spirit, guide Me.  I’ll gladly follow.

³ These are some suggested forms for applying this idea specifically:

⁴ God’s plan for salvation will save me from my perception of this. How I do see this Individual, this situation. 

Indeed, there is another way to look at this: an opportunity to Love.
This is no exception in God’s plan for my salvation.

Surely I have an opinion of it!  Let Me lay that to the side and listen.
Let me perceive this only in the light of God’s plan for salvation.  Let Me let the Holy Spirit perceive this anew for Me.

[72] Holding grievances is an attack on God’s plan for salvation.  That is no surprise.  It is just tempting.

Sister, have You not noticed that temptation comes but to keep You within the dream, and applies but to negativity?

Not till this instant, when it came clear as You were saying this.  I just never thought about it before.  It’s so obvious.

Obvious to the devious ego, using temptation to keep You bound and stuck within the dream!  Temptations are like fishhooks, easy in, not so easy out.  As usual, Awakening is always the solution.

⁵ Holding grievances is an attempt to prove that God’s plan for salvation will not work.  It’s another form of Catch 22! Yet only His plan will work. By holding grievances, I am therefore excluding my only hope of salvation from my awareness. What insanity! Dreaming is insane! I want to waken!  I would no longer defeat my own best interests in this insane way. I would accept God’s plan for salvation and be happy.  The choice is happiness or grievances.  There is no “in-between”.

⁷ I am choosing between misperception and salvation as I look on this.  Brother let Me use Your eyes to see this the same way You do.  You Who said: “Father forgive them, for They know not what They do.”

Ah, that I might see the way that You do.
If I see grounds for grievances in this
I will not see the grounds for my salvation. Brother, I ask again for Your Vision. This calls for salvation, not attack.  It is but a call for Love if I am willing to hear it.
