LESSON EIGHTY-FIVE

TRANSCRIBER’S NOTE: The Course text is in bold face. The Guidance is in normal type In His Guidance, He has asked Me to capitalize the pronouns You and We as an acknowledgement of the Divinity of All of Us, an acknowledgement of Equality, an expression of His Love and respect for You. When You see the word ‘YOU’ capitalized in the Guidance, know that He is not just speaking to YOU, He is honoring YOU.

REVIEW II

^R2:1 We are now ready for another review.  Why do We review but to strengthen Our understanding, on the subconscious level, till the Truth does replace the dream mindset as Your given. We will begin where our last review left off and cover two ideas each day. The earlier part of each day will be devoted to one of these ideas, and the latter part of the day to the other. We will have one longer exercise period and frequent shorter ones in which we practice each of them.

² The longer practice periods will follow this general form: take about 15 minutes for each of them, and begin by thinking about the idea and the comments which are included in the assignments. Devote about three or four minutes to reading them over slowly, several times if you wish, and then close your eyes and listen. Repeat the first phase if you find your mind wandering, but try to spend the major part of the practice period listening quietly but attentively.  Quiet, attentive listening is but Our holy goal here.  This to replace the habit of thinking!

³ There is a message waiting for you.  Your Right Mind is speaking to You always. You need but listen to be filled with Love, and with happiness. Be confident that you will receive it.  The Holy Spirit has but good intentions for You, although the ego does not see that and works very hard to block It! Remember that it belongs to you and that you want it. It speaks of Your Divinity and how very Loved You are. Do not allow your intent to waver in the face of distracting thoughts. Would You not be Loved?  The Love of God is so far, far beyond any sense of Love in the so-called human experience. Yet It’s always available to You!  Open Your heart so that You may receive and embrace It now.

Realize that, whatever form they take, – ego’s paltry thoughts; pay them no attention, just dismiss them! – they have no meaning and no power. Replace them with your determination to succeed. Do not forget that your will has power over all fantasies and dreams. Trust it to see you through and carry you beyond them all.  Reality can and does override all ego dreaming.

⁴ Regard these practice periods as dedications to the way, the truth, and the life. Refuse to be side-tracked into detours, illusions, and thoughts of death. You are dedicated to salvation.  You are dedicated to Life, Truth, and Love, for They are but Your salvation, and Your Brothers’ too. Be determined each day not to leave your function unfulfilled.  What better thing could You possibly do!

⁵ Reaffirm your determination in the shorter practice periods as well, using the original form of the idea for general application and a more specific form when needed. Remember that You are quite committed to Awakening. Some specific forms will be included in the comments. These, however, are merely suggestions. It is not the particular words you use that matter.  What counts are Your intentions, Your desires, Your self-discipline.  You can do it!

L e s s o n  85

¹ Today’s review will cover these ideas:

 

[69] My grievances hide the light of the world in me.

For grievances are dark and dingy things that do not like the Light.  They hide from It and hide It from You.  For You cannot see two opposing things, both at the same time.  Nor can You think them.

² My grievances show me what is not there and hide from me what I would see.  You must choose Reality or dreaming. Recognizing this, what do I want my grievances for?  Are they worth it to be ‘right’. Good question! They keep me in darkness and hide the light. Grievances and light cannot go together, but light and vision must be joined for me to see. To see, I must lay grievances aside. Every single one, for none can I hold on to and cherish. I want to see, and this will be the means by which I will succeed.  I am committed to seeing through the eyes of Love when I look at My Others.

³ Specific applications of this idea might be made in these forms:

⁴ Let me not use this as a block to sight.  No matter how put out I am feeling.  I can always change My mind about it.
The light of the world will shine all this away.  Truth summarily dismisses  error.
I have no need for this. I want to see.  The payoff for being angry with a Brother or Sister sure isn’t vision!

[70] My salvation comes from me.  No-One can do it for Me.  I must have the self-discipline to watch and correct My thoughts.  For salvation is but right thinking leading to right Be-ing.

⁵ Today I will recognize where my salvation is. Remember that I said in Bible times about the Kingdom that it was not “Lo here and lo there, but that it is within.” That is, within consciousness. In Your mind, for all things are Mind. It is in me because its Source is there. It has not left its Source, and so it cannot have left my mind. I will not look for it outside myself. Nor will I look within My body, for all things are mental. It is not found outside and then brought in. But from within me it will reach beyond, and everything I see will but reflect the light that shines in me and in itself.  The Light that shines as Me and as Itself is Our Divinity, Our Holiness.  And It is brighter even than the sun, yet can You look on It without being blinded, for this Light is wholly benign.

⁶ These forms of the idea are suitable for more specific application:

⁷ Let this not tempt me to look away from me for my salvation.  Salvation – Life, Truth and Love, are what I really am, awaiting My acceptance.
I will not let this interfere with my awareness of the Source of my salvation. Each trying situation, each difficult person, can lead Me to God within for My salvation.
This has no power to remove salvation from me.  Quite contrarily to what I have believed before, it can be My salvation.
