LESSON EIGHTY-THREE

The Guidance is in normal type In His Guidance, He has asked Me to capitalize the pronouns You and We as an acknowledgement of the Divinity of All of Us, an acknowledgement of Equality, an expression of His Love and respect for You. When You see the word ‘YOU’ capitalized in the Guidance, know that He is not just speaking to YOU, He is honoring YOU.

REVIEW II

¹ We are now ready for another review. We will begin where our last review left off and cover two ideas each day. The earlier part of each day will be devoted to one of these ideas, and the latter part of the day to the other. We will have one longer exercise period and frequent shorter ones in which we practice each of them.

² The longer practice periods will follow this general form: take about 15 minutes for each of them, and begin by thinking about the idea and the comments which are included in the assignments. Devote about three or four minutes to reading them over slowly, several times if you wish, and then close your eyes and listen.

While the ideas – of themselves – are quite important, the crucial part is the Listening, Our Communion.

Repeat the first phase if you find your mind wandering, but try to spend the major part of the practice period listening quietly but attentively.

³ There is a message waiting for you. Be confident that you will receive it. Remember that it belongs to you and that you want it. Do not allow your intent to waver in the face of distracting thoughts. – The ego mindset is quite good at distraction. – Realize that, whatever form they take, they have no meaning and no power. – Each and every thought coming from the ego mindset is meaningless, for it comes from belief in a ‘reality’ that is non-existent. – Replace them with your determination to succeed. Do not forget that your will has power over all fantasies and dreams. – The choice is always Yours.  Choose once again until Your choice is always God and Love. – Trust it to see you through and carry you beyond them all.

⁴ Regard these practice periods as dedications to the way, the truth, and the life. Refuse to be side-tracked into detours, illusions, and thoughts of death. You are dedicated to salvation. Be determined each day not to leave your function unfulfilled.

What else could You be doing that is as important as this is?  No other endeavor has worth even close to this one.

⁵ Reaffirm your determination in the shorter practice periods as well, using the original form of the idea for general application and a more specific form when needed. Some specific forms will be included in the comments. These, however, are merely suggestions. It is not the particular words you use that matter.

It is Your heart’s desire and Your diligence that matter.  Desire is prayer.

L e s s o n  83

¹ Today let us review these ideas:

[65] My only function is the one God gave me.  That I am here to express Love to all things and Every One.  Let Me remember just one thing: that I am here for giving.

 

² I have no function but the one God gave me. He would have Me Love not just All My Brothers, but All Things that He has created. And I will do this gladly, happily, even joyfully!  Listening to the Voice for God makes Me so very happy. There’s nothing that I’d rather do than be in that Communion; sharing It with All My Holy Others. This recognition releases me from all conflict because it means I cannot have conflicting goals. I am here to give.  And when I fulfill that function, “My cup runnether over!”₁ With one purpose only, I am always certain what to do, what to say, and what to think.  For I am not thinking, saying, doing, all by My lonesome.  I’ve got Partners: God, Elder Brother, and the Holy Spirit! They’re great company! All doubt must disappear as I acknowledge that my only function is the one God gave me.  Remembering that I’m here for giving, I can always give.

 

³ More specific applications of this idea might take these forms:

 

⁴ My perception of this does not change my function.  No matter how I see this now, God has for Me a way to see differently: My proper vision.  So do I see You, Brothers and Sisters.
This does not give me a function other than the one God gave me.  This crummy situation needs the Loving Light of God that I can bring to it.  I’ll do this gladly!
Let me not use this to justify a function God did not give to me.  I would rather act right with Love in a situation than be right about it.

 

[66] My happiness and my function are one.  This is obvious, for living My function does make Me very, very happy!

 

⁵ All things that come from God are one. They come from Oneness and must be received as one. We are All part of one grand, stupendous Whole: the Universe of Eternity, Fulfilling my function is my happiness because both come from the same Source. Our belovèd God. Our always Oneness. And I must learn to recognize what makes me happy if I would find happiness.  What else could it be but being here to Love and for giving?

 

⁶ Some useful forms for specific applications of this idea are:

 

⁷ This cannot separate my happiness from my function.  I can always Love instead of hating.
The oneness of my happiness and my function
remains wholly unaffected by this.  It is another opportunity to be here for giving
Nothing, including this, can justify the illusion of happiness
apart from my function.

In other words, happiness is Be-ing Who and What You really are: the Holy Son of God, and so dearly belovèd.
