LESSON EIGHTY-TWO

The Guidance is in normal type In His Guidance, He has asked Me to capitalize the pronouns You and We as an acknowledgement of the Divinity of All of Us, an acknowledgement of Equality, an expression of His Love and respect for You. When You see the word ‘YOU’ capitalized in the Guidance, know that He is not just speaking to YOU, He is honoring YOU.

REVIEW II

¹ We are now ready for another review. We will begin where our last review left off and cover two ideas each day. The earlier part of each day will be devoted to one of these ideas, and the latter part of the day to the other. We will have one longer exercise period and frequent shorter ones in which we practice each of them.

² The longer practice periods will follow this general form: take about 15 minutes for each of them, and begin by thinking about the idea and the comments which are included in the assignments. Devote about three or four minutes to reading them over slowly, several times if you wish, and then close your eyes and listen.

While the ideas – of themselves – are quite important, the crucial part is the Listening, Our Communion.

Repeat the first phase if you find your mind wandering, but try to spend the major part of the practice period listening quietly but attentively.

³ There is a message waiting for you. Be confident that you will receive it. Remember that it belongs to you and that you want it. Do not allow your intent to waver in the face of distracting thoughts. – The ego mindset is quite good at distraction. – Realize that, whatever form they take, they have no meaning and no power. – Each and every thought coming from the ego mindset is meaningless, for it comes from belief in a ‘reality’ that is non-existent. – Replace them with your determination to succeed. Do not forget that your will has power over all fantasies and dreams. – The choice is always Yours.  Choose once again until Your choice is always God and Love. – Trust it to see you through and carry you beyond them all.

⁴ Regard these practice periods as dedications to the way, the truth, and the life. Refuse to be side-tracked into detours, illusions, and thoughts of death. You are dedicated to salvation. Be determined each day not to leave your function unfulfilled.

What else could You be doing that is as important as this is?  No other endeavor has worth even close to this one.

⁵ Reaffirm your determination in the shorter practice periods as well, using the original form of the idea for general application and a more specific form when needed. Some specific forms will be included in the comments. These, however, are merely suggestions. It is not the particular words you use that matter.

It is Your heart’s desire and Your diligence that matter.  Desire is prayer.

L e s s o n  82

¹ We will review these ideas today:
[63] The light of the world brings peace to every mind through my forgiveness.  Who could this job do, but the Light of the world expressed as You?  There is no ego here, with self-aggrandizement, or without it.  The only One here is God’s Son here.

² My forgiveness is the means by which the light of the world finds expression through me.  And the Light is not just through Me, but actually as Me, as My living of It.  For It is but My Real Be-ing. As Reality, there is not – cannot be – a “Me” that is – in any way – apart from this Living Light – this All-Loving Light .

My forgiveness is the means by which I become aware of the light of the world in me.  And why is this? For the willingness it takes to forgive and forget grows only in the ground of Love. My forgiveness is the means by which the world is healed, together with myself. Why should We not hold grudges?  A simple reason!  Whose mind it is that is filled with these grievances?  Whose mind is fermenting with them?  Exactly! Yours! The mind of number One! “It is a sin to suffer for the sins of Others.”₁ It consumes a mind whose Reality would be only Love. Grievances do not support happiness.  Let me, then, forgive the world that it may be healed along with me.  As We said in the synagogue, this is a true mitzvah.  It is what Paul referred to when He said: “The greatest of these is charity.”₂  This Love that wills to see the best in a neighbour.  This is really Love.

³ Suggestions for specific forms for applying this idea are:

⁴ Let peace extend from my mind to yours, [name].  Belovèd Sister; belovèd Brother.
I share the light of the world with you, [name]. Let Me be willing only to Love You.
Through my forgiveness I can see this as it is. For I will then see only Reality with eyes of Love.

 

[64] Let me not forget my function.

I have one Function, and it can best be summed up in one word; and that word is Love.

⁵ I would not forget my function because I would remember my Self.  When I ‘forget’ to Love, I am not really present, but rather, dwelling in ugly dreams of a strange unreality that is called ‘the world’.  Let Me stop forgetting and remember! I cannot fulfil my function by forgetting. And unless I fulfil my function, I will not experience the joy that God intends for me. Instead I will be stuck in misery!  That’s unproductive, and not even fun!

⁶ Suitable specific forms of this idea include:

⁷ Let me not use this – this ‘transgression’ of  My ‘sinful’ Brother – to hide my function from me.
I would use this as an opportunity – such a glorious opportunity – to fulfill my function.  To let Love be Me, instead of hatred.
This may threaten my ego – which loves every opportunity to take over as Me – but cannot change my function in any way.  And why is this? For the Function of Be-ing Love is guaranteed as Me by God.

1	Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2	And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3	And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4	Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5	doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6	rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7	beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8	¶ Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
9	For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10	But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
11	When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
12	For now we see through a glass, darkly, but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
13	And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
