LESSON THREE HUNDRED FORTY FOUR

L e s s o n  344

Today I learn the law of love; that what I give my brother is my gift to me.

How can this be?  Easily, for You and Your Brother are really part of the One.

As to Your giving, You cannot give something away unless You have it first.  So if You gift Your Brother Love, then that gifted Love must first be Yours already.  And, indeed, it is, for Love isn’t something that You have, but Something that You are.

Thanking Him again, I’ll borrow from Piet Hein and paraphrase: Loving “is a thing You do.  Now or never, which do You?”  It’s just that simple.  The ego always takes, even in its giving, for it expects a return.  This Love of which We speak just desires giving.

¹ This is Your law, my Father, not my own.  My opportunity to learn how to really Love Others. For just now I begin to understand that Love is not thing, but Our True Substance. I did not understand what giving means and thought to save what I desired for myself alone. As You know, looking after number one. And as I looked upon the treasure that I thought I had, I found an empty place where nothing ever was or is or will be.  What I thought was Love was unsubstantial. Who can share a dream? And what can an illusion offer me? Just lies and more lies, unsubstantial lies. Yet he whom I forgive will give me gifts beyond the worth of anything on earth.  In order to forgive, I must let Myself be Love again. Love is My Self so long forgotten, and buried under seeming endless dreaming.  Let my forgiven brothers fill my store with Heaven’s treasures, which alone are real.  With these treasures My cup runneth over. Thus is the law of love fulfilled. And thus Your Son arises and returns to You.  This is the whole point of resurrection.

² How near we are to one another, as we go to God. Our Love draws Us once again together. How near is He to us. Closer than breathing,” as the poet said.₁  How close the ending of the dream of sin and the redemption of the Son of God.  Look around!  The Light of Love is dawning on Us everywhere!
