LESSON SEVENTEEN

The Guidance is in normal type In His Guidance, He has asked Me to capitalize the pronouns You and We as an acknowledgement of the Divinity of All of Us, an acknowledgement of Equality, an expression of His Love and respect for You. When You see the word ‘YOU’ capitalized in the Guidance, know that He is not just speaking to YOU, He is honoring YOU.

I see no neutral things.

I judge everything by how it will affect Me.  For I am the centre and the whole circumference of My perception of the Universe.  What’s in it for Me? – is the ego’s first question, and the basis for its judgments.

¹ This idea is another step in the direction of identifying cause and effect as it really operates. You see no neutral things because you have no neutral thoughts.

– In other words, You are the only cause of Your own effect! While world beliefs may influence Your thinking, still the choice remains as always Yours. –

It is always the thought that comes first, despite the temptation to believe that it is really the other way around. This is not the way the world thinks, but you must learn that it is the way you think. If it were not so, perception would have no cause and would itself be the cause of reality. In view of its highly variable nature, this is hardly likely.

The universal reality You see is not God’s but Yours.  There is a saying that goes: He who would be god must first create a universe, and this is exactly what You’ve done, because this is exactly the source of the separation.

You found another way to look at things, which turned into a nightmare.  And eons later, time out of mind, You’re still dreaming.

² In applying today’s idea, say to yourself, with eyes open:

³ I see no neutral things because I have no neutral thoughts.

⁴ Then look about you, resting your glance on each thing that catches your eye long enough to say:

⁵ I do not see a neutral _____, because my thoughts
about _____ are not neutral.

⁶ For example, you might say:

⁷ I do not see a neutral wall, because my thoughts
about walls are not neutral.
I do not see a neutral body, because my thoughts
about bodies are not neutral.

⁸ As usual, it is essential to make no distinction between what you believe to be animate or inanimate, pleasant or unpleasant. Regardless of what you may believe, you do not see anything which is really alive and really joyous. That is because you are unaware as yet of any thoughts which are really true and therefore really happy.

You think a ‘matter’ body that is breathing is the definition of ‘alive’, and that all else is ‘dead’.  This is not so in any way for God knows naught of ‘death’.  The entire Universe is a living Thing – including All Its Infinite Ideas that are forever.

Where did ‘death’ come from?  It was invented by the ego to flee from dreams that have become tedious without Your resorting to Awakening. The Individual stays asleep and ready for another round of dreaming.  Thus have You but passed millennia ad infinitum, blaming God – also known as Life – for death

⁹ Three or four specific practice periods are recommended and no less than three are required for maximum benefit even if you experience resistance. However, if you do, the length of the practice period may be reduced to less than the minute or so which is otherwise recommended.

Do not be surprised if the ego bucks at this exercise, and be so delighted if it doesn’t.
